I tried my sample of Martin de Candre for the second time and although I thought I used too much water it actually performed better. Excellent shave. Go figure.

Shave #2 on Gillette Minora Stainless in a Tech.

B1644F42-BA20-4706-A1A2-8C3DA0ADC4C4.jpegBeen a tough few days at work so good to chill with a nice relaxing shave.
i don’t know why but i find the cheaper soaps / products very pleasing to use.
just goes to show you don’t need to spend a fortune even although we all do lol.
It’s only the second time iv used these silver star blades and i like it a lot.
i actually forgot i had them but i must get more.
Hopefully the next shave is as good as this one.
Also i forgot i brought a bar of soap with me i found in Kos, it’s meant to be shaving soap but it’s not, however it does contain olive oil so works a treat as a pre shave.
Now looking forward to the next shave.

Razor: Hone 15
Blade: Wilkinson Sword Vintage, 3rd use

Preshave: PAA Cube Unscented Soap
Soap: PAA Gondolier Puck
Aftershave: PAA Gondolier Cologne
Balm: L’Oréal All In 1 Moisturising Cream Balm

Buckled and bought the matching splash to the soap, it’s a keeper and I’ve got to say PAA’s standard base is just as lovely as the CK6 base.

Head and face shave

Giles Shaving Bowl
Twig Thorn
Astra SP 3
Simpson Captain 2
Homemade witch hazel with glycerin, peppermint, tea tree and lavender essential oils
L’Occitane Original Balm
P&G Old Spice

Wonderful performance and scent from the soap. The Thorn is a decent head shaver but I find the Leaf better overall, although the Thorn is great at getting the bits above the ears bbs.

OMG - What is THAT!?
How did it shave for you?
One of Roger Quintero's ingenious 3D Gem adjustable designs.
Roger generously gifted me that razor and plates. The case was 3D printed by my son from Roger's 3D design file.
Shave using the most aggressive plate was very smooth, comfortable and close.

Nothing like trying to snap a pic in the dark, definitely that time of year up in the dark and finish in the dark! Despite that it was decent two pass, hit the left side of the face with the wrong angle and it was a little rough, sorted that out and it was smooth running from there on.

Nice smooth finish, unsurprisingly a little feedback on the left side but other than that it was all good. Smelling good and ready for the day.

Hope everyone has a decent one!

Cheers

Marc

Razor: Gillette 1956 USA B3 Red Tip
Blade: Gillette Nacet, 2nd use
Brush: Simpsons Chubby 3 Sovereign Grade
Bowl: Face Lather
Soap: Signature Soaps Novus Spice Croap
Balm: Signature Soaps Novus Spice Lotion
Additional Care: 1959 Rock And Roll
Additional Care: Wife Sniff Test = Not Too Bad At All

So this weeks theme is through the decades. I will be trying to match the razor and possibly soap if I can to the relevant decade (this is not an exact science).

We are staying in the 1950's just because I have two 1950's razors. Went the (new) old spice route to keep things classic.

Pre - Sainsbury's Luxury Soap, Bergamot & Nectarine
Brush - Vintage Butterscotch Culmak Plus 1950
Soap - Vintage Cussons Shave cream -1950's
Razor - Ever ready 1914
Blade - GEM PTFE S/S - Black band
Post - Cold water Rinse
Balm - Tonyschin's Cedarwood and Patchouli Argan Oil and Balm
A/S - Vintage Ferd. Mülhens Vintage 4711 EDC

Sadly not the best shave i have had with this vintage set up, it was all down to the nut on the end of the razor.
Rather than bowl lather the 70yr old cream, to try and eek out more shaves with it, i tried to get away with face lathering using less product than normal straight onto the brush, not the best idea i have had. I did manage to get enough going for the 2 pass shave, however, it was a bit thin and i did get a little irritation on the cheeks. Oh well, you live and learn, i will not be doing that again.
A very nice finish from 2 passes finishing with the Vintage 4711 splash, which again told me my lather was lacking.
Stay safe and enjoy your day all.

Wednesday 9th November

Vulfix Grosvenor in Badger - RazoRock Plague Doctor - Pearl Blaze/Dorco Titan - Lacura Steel (Abercrombie & Fitch Fierce smallalike)

Have been feeling pretty rough for a few days. Definitely not COVID as I still have a few tests left from while I was working. On the mend now but a bit tired and lethargic.
3 passes for a lovely smooth and close finish
