SOTD : Saturday 20th June - Friday 26th June 2020

Soap: Wickham 1912 Cashmere
Razor: Gillette Super Adjustable 109 P1 (setting 3)
Blade: Nacet
Brush: Yaqi 24mm Synthetic Cashmere Knot
Post: Cold rinse
Balm: Nivea Sensitive

Last of my four samples and a first try of a Wickham soap. IMHO I saved the best till last. I can now see why people rate Wickham 1912 soap's so highly. Easy to lather and great shave protection/slickness producing one of the nicest shaves I have ever had.

Sotd - which day? - answers on a postcard please.

razor - Gillette Slim (4)
blade - Lodz Polsilver (Polaroid camera - 5)
brush - Yaqi 22mm Cola synth
soap - Extro - Egyptian Oudh - vegan
post - cold water
a/s - RazoRock - Santa Maria del Fiore
balm - none needed
scent - non used.

Not sure where to start - lets change three variables at the same time - as you are told not to do - but hey - f**k it - rules are made to be broken. Who can resist new shaving porn? In reverse order - I own other RazoRock aftershaves - this one was - as I might expect of the brand - a nice 'ooft' from the alcohol as it went on - I notice it has castor oil in the ingredients - as said before - always works for my skin - good longevity of scent - tobacco forward - very good indeed for me - I can still smell it some 6 hours on. I'd definitely consider the soap to match. My first use of an Extro soap - it was not a disappointment - I now realise it deserves the high praise it mostly gets - I'd buy another - without doubt. Stupidly easy to lather - nice heavy glass jar - fits well in the hand as you load - although you wouldn't want to drop it on your foot accidentally. I don't own any other product that is described as oudh - so I have no benchmark - but it comes across as woody (he -he heh heh heh - sorry - Beavis and Butthead moment - he said woody) - resinous, musky and exotic - if that makes any sense. Very much a masculine scent. Finally - yes - finally - the Yaqi brush - was a revelation to me - on first look the handle is - obviously - gorgeous - ergonomic in my big hands, but I had little expectation of the knot - too soft for face lathering - or so I thought - how wrong was I? - it performed spectacularly well - the short loft really saves it - feels amazing on the face - lather like I seldom see - it won't replace my badgers but - the second synth knot - after an AP Shave SilkSmoke - I have actually enjoyed using. Combined with the Extro soap - and the Santa Maria - no need for any post balm - my skin - still - feels amazing. Job done. Take care - one and all - lets not take our eye off the ball - safety wise - yours - I.

@Boycie83 - cheers - what is the type of synthetic knot in that brush? I tried to look it up - but my browser - Firefox - which is ramped up to the nines with security stuff - script and ad blockers, anti-trackers etc - has a fit when I point it at Ali Express - as they do with me. They won't let me into or reset my account. Possibly somewhat ironic - as I use a Huawei phone.
Glad you enjoyed the bits Iain and great pic!

The fibre in that brush is the Plissoft type.

SOTD 21st June 2020 Farthers day shave

Razor - Paradigm SE
Blade - Schick Proline
Soap - Eufros - Tierra Humeda
Brush - Alpha Chubby with a Silvertip knot
Post - Thayers astringent
Frag - Guerlain Vetiver EDT

A wonderful shave but then it always is with this razor and blade combo.
I love the earthiness that comes from this soap so I thought a few sprays of Guerlain Vetiver would finish off this shave perfectly.......I was correct! :)

Wishing you all a wonderful day especially the farthers amongst you.

Untill the next time,

Paul.

Thanks - that is good to know - I'm not massively up on my synthetic knots - there are a bewildering array these days? - but that is a great brush - if for no other reason than it completely confounded my expectations - before I got it wet - I thought it was going to suck - I really enjoyed using it - the short loft I think is the key - as to why I like it - any longer it would be floppy for a face lathering type - such as myself. I'll try it with a hard soap and see what happens.Yours - I.

The Plissoft fibres do well with hard soaps. If you like the characteristics of the Plissoft, it's commonly found on the RazoRock brushes and the Executive Shaving brushes (y)

Yes , It grows on me everytime I use it , Pernod I haven't been able to touch that in a long time :)
I know what you mean mate - in a similar vein - I'm very fond of raki - see also ouzo - but don't allow myself to drink it anymore - it sets all the bad pixies loose - you wake up in your front garden - naked - with your house keys up your arse - with no clear idea of how you got there. The risk of actual bodily harm or arrest is just too great to take a chance anymore. What in Scotland would be called 'the bad man's ginger' or 'wreck the hoose juice' - no tequila for me anymore - for the same reasons. - I.

It is a good job I don't live in Scotland I , as my 'wreck the hoose juice' is high doses of whiskey !

Cold Water Shave
Brush: Simpson Duke 2 Best Badger
Soap: Stirling Soap co. Sandalwood
Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Feather PB (6)
Post shave: Cold water splash, Shower EO infused Witch Hazel
Balm: Barts Balm Rosemary and Sandalwood Balm & Lotion
Aftershave: Old Spice Pure Sport

A great shave today with the Vector. I fancied a change this week from the CR Salter, whats the first Stirling soap i pick up?, More bloomin' Sandalwood, still it was very nice though, whipped up with the Duke 2 Best, i am enjoying these natural brushes more lately. i basically start the lather off in a little Turkish copper bowl then complete a face lather. It works very well for me.
The Cold water shaving is really doing it for me and my chin is really feeling the benefit, the first go i had last year i did not like it, i now think that was down to my Nemesis Blade the "Polsilver SI".
Anyway, BBS, smooth, supple skin and smelling very sporty, saying that, the only sport i have done lately is grow sideburns that 1970's "Gooner" Charlie George would be proud of.

I am also sporting a hair cut that could rival Lon Chaney Jr's Wolf-man

I used to be the Same, although i prefer my Whisky without any E numbers in it ;).
I now sip it more moderately, Malt with a little water to open it up a bit.
The only Blended i can drink is Famous Grouse with Crabbies green ginger wine, my old man called it a "Robbie Mac".
Oh! and it is used as "Gunfire" in the Sunderland Gunners Club pre Armistice Day Parade. This is usually a long day.

Sun 21 SOTD
Cream Suezbana Lemon & TeaTree
Brush Yaqi 24mm Silvertip
Razor Gillette British RFB
Blade Tatra Platinum 2nd-Continuing to test this Czech blade
Post & Aftershave
Ice Water + Special Thayers Mix
Hyaluronic Acid + Reuzel Wood & Spice
Scooped out the hardened cream/croap and spread on face prior to face lathering. That's because the cream/croap is getting difficult to dissipate if inside a bowl or brush. Face lathering with this brush feels nice & soft. Scent was very nice and strong. Resulting lather just nice creaminess & slickness. Shave with the razor paired with blade feels really nice...again. Smooth, sharpish and really comfortable. 3 multiple passes with no issues. Really a close shave. Postshave with Reuzel is excellent. BBS to DFS with 9.5/10 rating.
So far this blade is great with most of my modern razors and now even for my challenging vintages...left with 1 more vintage to try tomorrow...
