Thursday

Gillette Fat Handled Tech (English)
Red Personna SS (2)
Simpsons 'Wee Scot'
Omega Soap

Nivea ASB
Old Spice AS (USA made)

Three pass, face lather.

A very good shave indeed.

Omega Soap rarely gets a mention but I love it - I find it much better than its stablemate, Proraso. This will be a cue for someone to say that they are the same beast but they certainly don't act as such. So there!

First Cold water shave :icon_eek:

Prep: Shower
Pre: Proraso pre-shave
Cream: TOBS St. James Collection
Razor: Merkur Progress @1.0
Blade: 7 o'clock yellow (3)
Brush: Traditional Shaving Co. Pure Badger
Aftershave: Alum, RSC asb

Having overdone it yesterday my face felt sore for most of the day, so I thought I'd try cold water shaving for the first time. Yesterday I had used Progress @2.5 with yellow 7 o'clock which was too keen for me. This was despite the fact the this blade was fine with Merkur 25c OC.

Shave was not as shocking as I thought. Provided the bathroom's warm I think cold water shaving is not really all that different. Certainly wakes you up, especially as water feels close to the freezing outside temps this morning.

Result: face now calming down and returning to usual. Think I'll try more cold shaves in the future.

Thursday 7th February 2013
Prep: Shower
Razor: GEM Micromatic Bullet Tip (Flying wing)
Blade: GEM Blue Star Carbon
Brush: Vulfix 406 Boar
Soap: Lea Stick grated into a container
Aftershave: RSC Balm

My third shave with the same GEM carbon blade and after yesterdays tender face (which got worse during the day until I applied some Nivea cream) I thought I would try it in a milder razor, hence the Flying Wing.

A better result, and certainly close enough, I used a delicate touch, but still there is just a tiny bit of stinging/tenderness. These blades are certainly very different, they have a different 'face feel' in use to what I am accustomed to and I wonder if I should persevere when I am getting a less comfortable shave and they are near on impossible to obtain, when the Stainless PTFE coated GEM's are readily available.

If any keen SE shavers wish to try a couple, PM me your address.

Regards Dick.

Wonderful razor, one of the under rated blades out there, I think. If you like thin and delicate German hollow grinds, this shaves close to my Dubl Ducks...
