SOTD Sat 14/07/12 - Fri 20/07/12

It's actually slightly different to my description, with the Feather - closer with my other straights.

Grip for down and sideways strokes:

Grip for up on neck or cheeks:

Grip for up on bottom lip (only - but I don't shave my chin). Don't know why I do this, tbh, except that it feels better than reaching across to past the lip and coming back. I only use my left hand on this grip, unlike the others:

I do not pretend to be an expert! This is just what I have found myself doing.

Thank God Tuesday's over

Proraso Pre/Post (Original formula)
Feather Artist Club SS - Pro Blade (10)
Neep #1214 - Aztec Leopard Skin Jasper
Art of Shaves Sandalwood cream
Nivea Sensitive balm
Witch hazel

Getting better!

No pre-shave
Trumpers Rose cream
Schick Krona with Schick Ultra Platinum (3rd shave)
Professor Blighty's Universal Shaving Balsalm, Tuxedo

For some reason the blade feels a bit scrapey in this razor. Quickly checked it wasn't the blade wearing out by sticking it in the fatboy on 4. Not the blade. I did enough touch-ups to make it two shaves. Not suffering too much for it though

Wednesday

Trumper Warwick Razor
Shark Super Chrome Blade
EJ Best Badger Brush
Scent From Heaven Lime Shaving Soap

So, owing to my recent discovery that I can make glycerin soaps work, I bought 3 from Scent From Heaven (thanks Johnny) to try. At £2.00 a pop there's not really much of a gamble.

Anyway, it smells nice and seems to work very well.

Dr. Rick, thanks for the pictures of the grips you use with the Feather. I was short of time this morning thanks to the snooze button on my alarm so didn't shave with the Feather this morning. I'll give it a bash tomorrow though.

This morning I used:

Gillette Slim Adjustable
Gillette SharpEdge (1)
LEA soap
Semogue SOC Boar
LEA balm

Very nice indeed.

Pre Veleiro soap + DR Harris Arlington shaving cream + Vie&Long 13064 horse + Rotbart 15.5 with Croma + 4711 splash with LEA balm

A very clean, smooth shave! If I must choose a unique razor for daily shaves, I'll keep with this Rotbart without any doubt: very difficult to have a bad shave with it, and it is as comfortable to use like a Tech but shaves far better.

Cheers!

Wednesday 18th July 2012
Prep: Shower
Razor: GEM Pushbutton
Blade: NOS Carbon GEM
Brush: Vie Long 13061M Horse
Soap: Füme Lavender
Aftershave: Nivea Sensitive Balm

A desperately bad start with the Carbon 1950s/60s blade. I got less than half way into the first pass when I had to bin it, the worst blade I have ever used, rough as a bears a*se (English spelling with the r) I replaced it with a modern stainless coated GEM and the difference was unbelievable.

Regards
Dick.

Mega Minty Shave day

King of Shaves Pre shave Menthol
Proefssor Blighty's Isen Vann Menthol and Mint Shave soap
1913 Shovelhead with new gem blade
Alum Block
M and S Isis aftershave balm
Professor Blighty Peppermint A/S

Very clean, very fresh and very tingly. Nice. Mintastic.

This morning:

Prep: Face wash, Imperial Leather bath soap, cold
Razor: Kropp 6/8", ivorine scales, restored by Jamie
Brush: Vie-Long Horse 13070
Soap: Proraso green
Aftershave: Prof Blighty's Green Ginger

By far the best lather I've had from either this brush or this soap :).

Horsehair brushes and Proraso - clearly a winning combination!
