Wednesday xvii April 2013

Prep: Shower, Arran Aromatics Lavender & Tea Tree Facial Wash
Pre: Proraso White
Brush: 404 Grosvenor "Bodger"
Cream: Miller Harris Feuille de Tabac
Razor: Merkur 46C Travel
Blade: Polsilver Super Stainless #2
Astringent: Thayers Medicated Super WH
Post: Zirh Post Shave Solution
Fragrance: Acqua di Parma Collezione Barbiere

Results: Another excellent shave, with the Feuille de Tabac excelling itself. There is still a black cloud hanging over me regarding the Boston Marathon, hearing about the terrible loss to a single family is so tragic.

I've been using the progress for a little while but decided to dig the R89 out. The finish and feel of the 89 is just so much better than the progress, Merkur could (and should) learn a thing or two from MÜHLE. Despite it's looks though, the progress is a great razor.

Date: 17/04/2013

Beard: Two days growth as I had a new Merkur Progress due for delivery and wanted to test it out.
Prep: Hot Shower, face wash and hair conditioner on beard
Razor: Merkur Progress
Blade: Gillette Yellow (1)
Brush: A random Badger brush bought of t'Bay
Soap: Proraso Green.

Razor Set up: (Merkur Progress)
Pass 1: No 1.5 – With the grain
Pass 2: No 2 – Across the grain
Pass 3: No2.5 – Against the grain
Hot Rinse
Cold Rinse
Post Shave: Nivia aftershave balm

I have only been wet shaving with DE's for a month or so now so new to all this, but loving it.

Brand new razor and a big step up from the ever so lovely Gillette tech. So a little cautions with this hefty beast. The razor makes the most fantastic sound with each stroke. With the blade choice the razor cut through my two day growth like a hot knife through butter. Only used the weight of the razor as all good posts on here suggested.

The verdict:
A truly fantastic shave with the combination above. The Proraso provides a lovely smooth and creamy tingly and refreshing shave. The razor is truly a Piece of German engineering excellence. The shave is spot on, no cuts or wounds or irritation. Looking forward to my next shave with the Progress.

Notes: Very good shave. Effortless 2-pass BBS, almost no sting. Razor finished on brown Special Stone.

Tuesday evening

razor : Fatip Piccolo
blade : Trig
cream : Body Shop maca root
brush : C&E super badger
splash : Old Spice whitewater

After having two of the best shaves I've ever had at the end of last week, 2 shaves this week have been mediocre. Maybe a bit of over confidence kicking in.

Wanted to try a couple of 'Made in England' items in preparation for these weeks St George's Day shave so:
Warm shower, face scrub and chamomile soap
Home-made pre-shave oil
Palmolive soap
Vulfix 404 brush
Pass 1: Old Style Gillette open comb (Made in England) Derby blade (1)
Pass 2: EJDE89L with Polsilver IS (3)
Pass 3: Gillette Tech with aluminium handle (Made in England) Lord SC (1)
Alum
Truefitt & Hill 1805 ASB

Really good BBS shave with little or no discomfort. Liking the oil a lot better than the Proraso pre.
