Saturday 13th April 2013
Prep: Shower
Razor: GEM 1912 Damaskeene
Blade: GEM Stainless Coated
Brush: Burma Shave Boar
Soap: Speick Stick grated into a container
Aftershave: Nivea Sensitive Balm

I have at last managed to buy an early model Damskeene after many months of trying.

I must say that all the hype is correct and justified, it produced one of my greatest shaves ever; certainly quite a bit better than any of my other 1912's or my later model 'Dammy' and dare I say it as good as the OCMM possibly a little better.

I need to get a lot more shaves under my belt with this razor before passing final judgement, but it is instantly obvious that it is a truly great shaving razor.

Regards
Dick.

Rotbart 20 with Tiger Superior Stainless/Astra Superior Platinum
Boots Freshwood balm

The Tiger scraped in this razor. The Astra was far smoother. Freshwood undid the damage. It's great stuff

FRIDAY EVENING

Prep: Hot flannel and Prep massaged into beard
Razor: Cobra Classic
Blade: Feather Professional (2)
Brush: New Forest 2221
Cream: Cella - face lathered
Post shave: Alcolado Glacial (AAAARRGGHHH!!) and Wilkie balm

After my great shave of the other night I was convinced I had the Cobra cracked.

I think, subconsciously, that made me a bit cocky with it and oh how I've suffered!

It demands a really light touch, if not you pay the price. My face was glass smooth but I looked like Freddy Krueger and I'm still a bit sensitive after a nights sleep!

Lesson definitely learnt. Respect the snake!

This was how it went today
Hot shower
Face scrub St.Ives
Proraso White preshave
Tobs Jermyn Shaving Cream
Cold Rinse
Alum
Cold Rinse
Nivea Sensitive Balm

All went well today - i had got one of the sample blade packs and decided to try the derby as there was so many mixed reviews.
I loaded up my rocket and had a good 3 pass shave with no noticeable irritation .No nicks etc.
Gonna wait and see how the rest of the derby pack performs though.
All in all a very comfortable shave

Ps tried to delete my other thread but it would not let me
re sotd as i did not realise there was a specific thread for it - Sorry newbie alert !!

Long time has passed since I used Palmolive and Irisch Moos... really good combination, thought!

Cheers!

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage Simpsons best
Gillette #58/Schick Plus Platinum (NOS)
J. Peterman 1903 SC
Boots AS Balm
Creed 'Aventus' EdT

Got the J. Peterman out this morning.....one of the very few creams in my rotation. Very good performance with quite a classy scent. Heh, this is a few years old and the little bit left in the tub is mostly dehydrated. No problem though, since I just put some in a bowl with a little boiling water to help dissolve the stuff. Whipped up real purty like.

This particular razor/blade combo was a new one to me and a very good match up.

BBS results,

Martin
