Monday AM

Prep:
Hot flannel (I washed my face earlier this morning with Musgo Real Glyce lime oil soap)

Shave:
Merkur HD
Crystal Platinum (1)
TOBS synthetic
RSC cream, face-lathered

Post-Shave:
Boots witch hazel
Nivea Sensitive A/S balm

2 passes (WTG, XTG) plus touch-ups

I decided to practice the sort of shaves I'll be having on holiday later this year, so face-lathered rather than my preferred bowl-lathering, and used the synthetic brush instead of the Kent pure badger. Fortunately, this blade feels much better than the last one.  Result, not BBS, but somewhere between a good shave and a DFS. More importantly, little or no irritation.

Re: Shave of the day - w/c Feb. 12th to 18th incl.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage butterscotch Ever Ready badger
1949 #16 Aristocrat/Iridium
Surrey SS (pre VDH reformulation)
Lucky Tiger AS and Face Tonic
Caron 'Yatagan' EdT

BBS results,

Martin

Re: Shave of the day - w/c Feb. 12th to 18th incl.

Monday

Things were really wrong today.
First off, not being at home is already a bad point for shaving.
Second, I had the "brilliant" idea of taking my Vulfix brush with me. (I would probably have been better off with gel in a can)
Third, a bathroom with no heating is not only uncomfortable, it also means you can't see shit in the mirror when you get out of the shower.

So, basic setup:
Razor: Thomi Freres Lausanne 5/8
Strop: Heljestrand paddle strop
Prep: KoS Shaving Oil
Cream: Avene Creme a raser
ASB: Nivea Sensitive

Yes, the Vufix looks like a wet dog, but I'm sure lathering with a wet dog would've be easier.
Glad my 2 new NF brushes arrived, never ever going to travel without a badger again!

Don't even ask about results, I'll make something up.

Re: Shave of the day - w/c Feb. 12th to 18th incl.

You're not the only one with a bad beard day Frenchie.

Tuesday:

Hot shower, T+H ultimate comfort oil
L'Occitane cade soap
Edwin Jagger pure badger
Merkur HD, Gillette stainless 7 o'clock (green) - 1
Alum (lots)
Crabtree + Evelyn west indian limes EDC

All going dandy until the second pass, just the moustache area left, I turned the razor 90 degrees and carelessly took up a start point in the centre, and NIP! Big chunk gone out of my top lip.

Other than bleeding for ten mins, not too bad. But even alum was slow to stop this... worst cut I've had I think.
