The World Cup

If only USA hadn't got that last minute winner.

One of USA, Uruguay, Mexico or South Korea are now guaranteed a semi-final place. England, meanwhile, have to face Germany and (most likely) Argentina to get to the same position.

We can beat Germany, Argentina and whoever we meet in the semi final.

But we might not. We shall ponder and wonder.

That's the joy and heartache of being a sports fan.

This just arrived in my inbox, from Australia:

The world cup has ended just like world war 2. The French surrendered early, the Americans turned up late, the Italians gave up and The English are left to fight the Germans!

If England bring on a sub on Sunday . Will Germany counter with a uboat?

...having watched half the Brazil Porto game coupled with Mick's vivacious commentary I would have blown it.

It's not that difficult to be a great war time leader...just make sure your on the winning side.

Come on Capt Villa fill ya boots.

soldiers fight the wars that politicians start or fail to stop.

i used to think we should solve world conflicts by the leaders of the 2 countries in dispute having face off a la Two Tribes video of Frankie Goes to Hollywood. nowadays though i think they should have a group dance off followed by a solo show tunes medley.

....but led by a sober Italian instead of a drunk. I'm not sure what's worse.

cometh the hour, cometh the man.

given the choice of being led either by a bloke who likes a drop and a smoke or a teetotal, vegetarian, dog lover - i know who i would follow. :|

Seems appropriate that I can only think of one German "teetotal, vegetarian, dog lover"
