I'm pressed for time today, so I decided to do a quick and simple shave. I started off just intending to face lather some VDH Glycerin with my Muhle/TGN synthetic, but then it turned into a superlather. I pulled out the Musgo Real Lime Basil cream to give it a quick sniff (I love the smell of that stuff), but a small amount ended up oozing out...so, I shrugged and decided to make a superlather.

This was a quick two pass wtg/atg shave using my super-face-lather, the Muhle/TGN synthetic brush, and my Gem 1912 with a three shave old Gem carbon steel blade. I managed a nice DFS with zero nicks and zero irritation. The slickness of this superlather is beyond compare, it left my skin nice and smooth--even after a rushed shave. I enjoyed this shave quite a bit and might have to work this combo into my regular rotation.

Pre: Hot shower and warm water splash
Razor: Gem 1912
Blade: Gem carbon steel
Brush: Muhle/TGN synthetic
Soap: Superlather of VDH Glycerin and Musgo Real Lime Basil
Post: Cold water rinse

Gillette Aristocrat #15
Personna Lab Blue (1)
Semogue SOC 2-band
Martin de Candre scented
Proraso Aftershave lotion
Diptyque Philosykos edp

First go with this open comb British Aristocrat. It's definitely got a personality! I think I'll need a few shaves to get the hand of it, realistically, but I'll hopefully tame it. Close but rough is how I'd describe tonight's shave. A spot of irritation at the side of both jaws.

Musgo Real glyce classic soap
Merkur Digress HD B / Rapira
Culmak Style Butterscotch 20mm Finest
Proraso Red Sandalwood cream (New Formula)
Proraso Green A/S

Squeaky clean

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage rebranded Simpsons best
Schick F type injector/Gillette Platinum Plus (NOS)
Surrey SS (older tallow pre VDH reformulation version)
Lucky Tiger AS and Face Tonic
Malizia 'Vetyver' EdT (gone in 15 minutes)

Last couple shaves have been with the same razor/blade/soap trio as the few shaves before em. Really one hell of a good set up for me.

BBS results,

Martin

TUESDAY EVENING

Prep: Cold rinse
Razor: Kai Captain Excelia
Blade: Feather Proguard
Brush: Frank Purtech
Soap: Klar Kabinett\WS cream - suribachi lathered
After: Witch hazel & IK balm

Back to work tomorrow. Busy few days then the kids are in on Monday.

Not a bad shave with this setup tonight, though I'm still on the learning curve. Couple of nicks from trying to get too close.

I managed to hunt down a washer that I could use to fit a Boots DE razor head to a Merkur handle. This is because the threading on the Boots head only goes half way down the top plate, so a handle won't screw on all the way down, only the original plastic handle. The washer was from a bicycle brake block, unused, clean, and fitted perfectly.

Prep: Real Shaving Company face scrub
Cream: Trumpers Spanish Leather
Brush: Ewin Jagger Chatsworth ebony synthetic bristle
Razor: Merkur 25c handle with Boots DE head, plus a washer
Blade: Wilkinson Sword classic
Post: Crabtree & Evelyn sienna.

A very close shave at that.

Wednesday iv September, 2013

Good morning, gents.

Prep: Hot shower, Savon de provence Shea butter
Pre: Cold water splash
Brush: Frank Shaving Pur-Tech synthetic
Soap: NOS Old Spice shave stick
Razor: Digress LD
Blade: Rapira Swedish Supersteel #2
Post: Thayer's Medicated WH, Zirh Post Shave Solution
Fragrance: Shulton NOS Old Spice ASL

Result: Terrific again. The Old Spice is a revelation and a joy to use. My old man was a lucky fella to be able to stroll up to the local Boots the Chemist and pick this up off the shelf for peanuts. I'm not finding the Supersteel 100% to my liking. My acid test is to shave from mouth to nose and this is not as smooth as others. That said, a good all round blade.

Have a good day,

Jon

It's quite an experience shaving with the Excelia, wise choice of blade though. I think it is worth persevering with - a great razor.
