S.O.T.D. Saturday 26th July to Friday 1st August 2014

Greetings

Wednesday 30th July 2014
Prep: Shower
Razor: Schick Golden 500 J3
Blade: Schick Custom Golden Swedish Steel NOS
Brush: Semogue OC SE 2102 Mixed
Soap: Speick Stick Grated
Aftershave: Astral Cream (light)

Only a moderate shave from a superb shaving razor, this result is entirely due to the blades. The finish was close enough but the blade pulled like a train and made for an unpleasant shave.

These blades were supplied with these Golden 500 sets when they were sold in the early sixties, they are carbon blades with a gold (ish) coating on them.

I am a big fan of modern carbon blades in SE and DE but have yet to find any vintage ones any good, especially those that came with old injectors, whether this is because the blades were pretty poor originally or because they are carbon they have degraded with the passage of time; I suspect a bit of both.

Regards
Dick

Fitjar Neroli cream
New Forest Tubby 2
LC New/JEC handle
Gillette 7 o'clock Black
Pinaud Clubman AS

A very nice shave from a razor I rarely use for some reason, not sure why, it's a nice little thing. Two passes, more than good enough.

Prep: Hot shower, Bulldog Original Face Wash
Pre: Cold water splash
Brush: Simpson's Wee Scot
Lather: Musgo Real Lime Basil Cream
Razor: iKon Open Comb
Blade: Sputnik #1
Post: Lucky Tiger After Shave & Face Tonic, Trumper's Essence of Limes Skin Food

Result: Don't think that the Sputnik works for me quite as well as the Platinum Lux, but we'll see what tomorrow brings, eh?

All the best,

Jon

Prep: hot wash
Razor: EJ89
Blade: BIC chrome platinum (2)
Soap: Proraso Green
AS: Proraso Green
Brush: Vie-Long horse.

I thought it was just my poor technique with this blade but now I am not sure. Despite going back to basics and concentrating on angle and letting the weight of the razor do the work, it felt like i had just shaved using a bic disposable. Should I persevere with this or could it be a bad blade?
