S.O.T.D Saturday 16th November to Friday 22nd November 2013

Thanks Alex. Wow, didn't think it was that old! Thought it was trying to look old (and yes, trying to look like a vodka bottle). It's quite nice stuff; has an old-fashioned but not strong barber smell but also a very strong alcohol smell initially

Gillette Aristocrat #15
Gillette 7oc Yellow (1)
Semogue SOC Finest
Valobra Sapone per barba
Proraso Aftershave lotion

Two days' growth - neither me nor the missus likes it.

I'm going to run this #15 for the week, I think, to get to know it better. I'm concentrating on minimal pressure as this one punishes me. BBS with no claret and minimal irritation tonight, mind you.

SUNDAY EVEING

Prep: Warm rinse
Brush: Frank Shaving Purtech
Razor: Gillette Parat
Blade: Personnal Lab Prep
Soap: Himalaya - scuttle lathered
Post: Witch hazel and Proraso balm

Really easy shave tonight with excellent results. A good first shave for the week ahead.

Prep: Shower/ Hot towel
Pre: BBR Pre shave oil
Brush: Semogue 1305
Razor: Gilbert Bros 5/8 / Muhle R41
Blade: Personna Platinum
Soap: BBR shave cream
Post: Warm rinse/Alum/cold splash
AS: BBR Post shave Balm

So my first time using a straight tonight, after weeks of readeing up and watching videos. First was stropping which i felt i got the hang of after loads of practise with a shavette.

I took the advice to only do one cheek on my first go thats why i had the R41 on standby. Harder than i thought to be honest, i thought i had left the soap on my face too long as the straight seemed very 'sticky' when trying to shave. However trying with the R41 the soap wasn't the problem, i knew it was my technique, but couldn't decide what was wrong. When i tried on the other side, it turns out i was holding it too close to my face, after incresing the angle it worked alot better.

Stopped there with the straight and did the rest with the R41, nothing further to report, BBS!

Going to continue taking baby steps with the straight, I am in no rush and just enjoy learning an Art!!!

Monday

LEA stick
New Forest Tubby 2
Aristocrat Junior
7 o'clock SharpEdge
Pinaud Vanilla AS

Nicely done, smooth and comfortable. It's a really nice little razor the Junior. Packs more punch than you'd think given its diminutive size.

Afternoon, all.

Prep: Claus Porto's Lime-oil face soap
Razor: EJ DE89 with Bulldog handle
Blade: Derby (3)
Brush: Ecotools Kabuki
Shave cream: Super Max
A/S: Gabriela Sabatini

Because I was in a rush this morning, I went with a single ATG pass and got a somewhat smooth but very respectable-looking shave.

Sunday afternoon

Prep: Hot shower, JF Shower Gel
Razor: Stainless Steel Digress
Blade: Iridium Super (4)
Brush: Vulfix reknotted in 23mm 2 Band TGN

A day off work today. So midday absolutions...

Shower
Simpsons Emperor 2 Super
NNS unscented olive oil with goats milk soft soap
iKon OC with a Personna (2nd use)
Weleda As balm.

BBS (as I had the time), but my neck feels sore, soft but sore/itchy and I think it might be the Weleda. Will use this for a few more days to see if it is the Weleda causing the soreness.
