The best shave I have EVER had to date.
Which ingredient made it so special, Steve?

Since you ask:

1) Not had the fatboy long, but I really got to grips with the angle and the feedback
2) Rapira SS blades... they really are worth the hype in my opinion
3) Bit of a change in technique... working out which way my beard grows... resulted in no touch-ups... getting to the bottom of that one, regardless of razor and blade
4) Nanny's soap... very forgiving and slidey... and I like woody scents
5) ... and I was in a good mood, just booked a holiday

Trying out a Gillette Super Thin tomorrow... let's hope the good form continues

Congratulations to today's photo posters - a great selection and Helveticum's bowl is a piece of beautiful work although I'm not sure I would want to use it for fear of spoiling its beauty.

Cheers Rob, I'll make some decent pictures when I'm back home later in the week. Already thinking about treating it with something waterproof..

merkur 37
7 o'clock yellow
semogue 620
la toja shave stick
vintage shulton old spice AS/ 444

not a great shave, not a total disaster though. trying to get to grips with the semogue, can only seem to get one decent lather from it. when i lathered up for the second time i only got a thin lather but went ahead anyway, when i was using a slant with a fresh 7 o'clock yellow it wasnt the greatest idea. has left me a bit sore in a few places.

monday evening

slant w/feather blade
commodore x2 brush
simpsons pre shave oil
tobs mr taylors cream
tobs bay rum as
givenchy play intense edt

smashing!

Proraso white pre/post
T&H 1805 cream
NF tubby 1
Weber DLC/Goliath XL red bronze
Profs ASB mixed with 444

Lovely smooth shave, however to small patches of irritation when going ATG as my lather was a little thin on the last pass.

MONDAY EVENING

EJ Chatsworth Barley Chrone
Personna Lab Blue (2)
Semogue OC Boar
Mama Bears lime soap
Witch hazel
Institut Karite AS balm

Second good shave with this blade (though I don't think it'll go beyond 3).

Also got a really good lather with the Semogue and the Mama Bears. It needs a properly broken in boar to make the most of it.

Just now: hot shower, Planet Rock.
Weber DLC, Bolzano Superinox (lost count how many shaves with it now). Last squirt of 1805 cream, NF brush. Tried a slightly different approach to a couple of wee areas I've always struggled to get a clean shave on, with success!
Finished with a splash of Old Spice.
Very happy with this shave. :D

This morning:

Prep: Face wash, cold
Razor: Filarmonica 14 Especial, just under 7/8"
Brush: Neep #947 yew ball and bobbin silvertip
Soap: D R Harris almond
Aftershave: Prof Blighty's Yellow Ginger
Scent: L'Occitane Eau Des Baux

Very satisfactory.

Tuesday

Gillette Fat Handled Tech (English)
Red Personna SS (3)
Semogue 1307
Arko Soap Stick

Nivea ASB
Body Shop White Musk EdT *
Forest Fresh AS *

(* = Both be lucky if they last till the end of the working week)

Three pass, face lather.

Very good shave indeed; it always is with Arko.

Both the Body Shop White Musk EdT and the Forest Fresh AS are nearing the end of their lives. I may replace the latter (a standby for the office) but not the former.

Obviously I'm still using and depleting previously purchased stock with minimal acquisition and replenishment.

Tuesday

Yesterdays shave left me feeling a bit tender due to the blade having gone blunt faster than expected, today was a case of just being presentable for work and letting my face recover so a single WTG pass was all I did today.

Prep, Hot Shower
Brush, Simpson Chubby 2 Best Badger
Soap, Cella
Razor, Weber polished with Wave handle
Blade, Personna Red
Balm, Barbershop Bay Rum.

Not a close shave but perfectly presentable.

Tuesday

Kent T4
Martin de Candre SS
Filarmonica 13 DT, white scales
L'Oreal Men Expert 24hr Hydrating Balm
Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza EdC

Hotel shaving

Prep: Hot shower with Nivea Q10 facial wash
Pre: Proraso White Pre-Shave
Brush: Vie-Long Horsehair
Soap: Vito's Extra
Razor: Merkur Travel
Blade: Rapira #2
Post: Alum, Proraso White Pre-Shave, Somerset's ASB, Floid "The Genuine"

Result: Top shave, love the Floid
