Shave of the day W/C Saturday 9th July

Sunday Evening:

  • - PAL Regent Injecto-matic
    - Vie Long 12705 natural looking horsehair
    - La Toja Manantiales shave soap
    - MICAlum stick
    - Thayers' Lavender witch hazel
    - La Toja Manantiales ASL

Last night, late again:

Hot shower
GFT Limes cream, face lathered with
New Forest T2
Jagger DE89, with
Gillette 7OC Yellow (6)
Nivea balm

Last of the Trumper's Lime cream sample, and excellent lather from a meager portion it was too. Three face and four neck, a quick and clean and trouble-free shave. Very satisfying indeed.

This blade feels like it could go further - no hint of dulling yet. Impressive.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage Marshall Fields badger

Another new blade tried this morning.....quite a good one. Yeah, some of these old blades are really nice, and this one's in that group. It'll be interesting to see how many shaves the NOS Schick ends up providing me with.

Monday pm. First shave in 9 days due to holiday laziness, thank goodness for slow growth!

Today marks Stage 6 in my personal Gillette Super Thin Experiment:

EJ DE89BL, loaded with a Gillette Super Thin (3rd shave with the blade)
Nanny's Lime Silly Soap
Vulfix 404 Bodger
Stainless steel petfood bowl (seriously) for the lathering.

Usual three passes, w, x, atg. No touchups. No dragging of the blade. Two small weepers quickly styptic'ed away. Steve's splendid Barbershop Bay Rum to envigorate the coupon afterwards.

Another Damn Fine Shave.

I guess I am going to stop the experiment now, with not much of a conclusion to show for it other than this:

The Edwin Jagger DE89BL shaves (for my face anyway) exactly the same as the Gillette Slim Adjustable set to 4. So similar in performance that I can't tell the difference.

I am still going to keep working through the small selection of blades I have bought or been given (thanks guys), now I know if I need to go back to basics, the Super Thin in either razor will be what I reach for. The standard by which I will measure all others, if you like.

Hot flannel prep
Feather AS D1
Feather blade (3)
Provence Sante
NF Finest Silvertip
Thayers Witch Hazel
Professor Blighty's Lavender AS splash
Penhaligon's English Fern edt
I had not shaved for three days, but the Feather AS D1 with the Feather blade shaved really well. Having shaved with the Feather AS D1 exclusively for the past two weeks, I am very happy with it, I get nice smooth shaves every time.
