Shave of the day W/C Oct 29/10/2011

Re: RE: Shave of the day W/C Oct 29/10/2011

Up early again on the last day of my half-term:

Bulldog face wash
Feather AC RG with ProGuard blade (1)
D. R. Harris almond soap
New Forest HMB
Trumper's Coral skin food

Face S, W, N; neck N, SW, N. Two minor nicks on left jawline on the second pass, which I only noted when they bled a little (styptic magic as ever). Very, very clean.

The combination of the blade bank I've had for a while and the cunning injector system means you never need touch a blade with your fingers, which pleases me obscurely. I'm surprised that none of the several YouTube videos I've watched on these razors has demoed the clever loading system.

EJDE89
Feather
Vulfix Mix
Proraso Cream
Proraso Balm
Gucci Sport EDT

Monday morning, bleary eyed , required something to boost me into the week. That combined with not shaving over the weekend resulted in me having to bring on a specialist squad.

Proraso and a feather! The boys did a good job!

Monday

Trumper DE Razor
Astra SP Blade
New Forest 2201 Brush
Monsavon Soap
Clinique Post Shave Soother

As advised by our very own hunnymonster, the Monsavon is getting better the more I use it. It's performance on the first shave was almost bad enough for me to bin it, but the 2 subsequent shaves have been very nice.

Monday 31st October

Cella - SOC 2-band - Kirby Beard - 7 O'clock Yellow (3) - Ogallala L&P

I found the Cella lurking at the bottom of a drawer whilst having a bit of a clear out over the weekend. I've never been that taken with it when I've used it before, but it performed pretty decently today.

With the exception of the 444 balm, none of this stuff is made nowadays.

Colgate Cup soap (probably from the 50's)
Semogue 1550 (late 90's)
Joseph Rodgers straight razor (ca. 1820-1830)
444 balm
Old Spice Musk by Shulton (late 80s)

Monday

Merkur Futur
Shark SS
Semogue 2015
Arko Stick
Thayers Superhazel
Old Spice Fresh Lime AS

First shave with the Futur in over a year. Stuck religiously to the 34C after the massive cock-up I made of my face with a Futur/Feather combo.

Today was a different story. Wonderful shave.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage Marshall Fields badger
1958 Toggle/Iridium
Surrey SS (pre VDH reformulation)
SebaMed AS Balsam
Givenchy 'Xeryus' EdT (old formula)

Another nice shave with the Toggle. Guess I'll be using this razor a bit more than in the past.

This EdT is a keeper.....recently found during an estate sale browse. Hadn't sniffed it before and I gotta say it's very pleasant.

BBS results,

Martin

I'm starting to get the hang of shaving sticks at last. Another fine, and quick, shave today. Found an old container for the Palmolive which works really well. NF 2211, Jagger Chatsworth/red personna and Proraso balm on duty as well. Nice weather here today so a pleasant coastal ride on the Enfield just completed.

Gillette Fatboy with Polsilver (3)
TOBS Jermyn St Sensitive cream
Nivea Sensitive balm

Fatboy on 5 for first two passes to remove a day and a half of stubble. 3 for third pass. Bit of blade buffing but nice shave.

Tuesday

Trumper Razor
Astra SP Blade
New Forest 2201 Brush
Vitos Extra Super Coconut Shaving Soap
Clinique Post Shave Soother

First use of the Vitos, from antdad. Very nice indeed, but I can't smell any coconut, just marzipan. Still no complaints, though.

This is the last morning that my moustache area will be shaved this month, as it's now MOVEMBER! and unlike some others I could mention, I'm not cheating :)
