S.O.T.D Saturday 2nd March to Friday 8th March 2013

Thursday:

RazoRock XXX
Semogue 2012 SE
#15 Aristocrat
Gillette 7 o'clock SharpEdge
Witch Hazel
Blue Stratos AS
Nivea Skin Energy ASB
DR Harris Windsor EdT

Superb shave. The #15 and I haven't always seen eye to eye, but we worked together this morning to get a great result.

Santa Maria Novella Preshave
TOBS Coconut Soap
Ever Ready Streamline
Professor Blighty's Balm, A/S and Cologne.

Norfolk Dick sent me a streamline to try along with a carbon Gem blade on Tuesday - it was not a great success and left quite a lot of soreness even yesterday. Today, I tried a coated Gem blade and found it much better. Tuesday's shave was in a hotel without the benefit of pre-shave and my usual hot towel routine so this may have contributed to the difference but I'll be sticking with the coated blades for now.

Thursday

Kent T4
Martin de Candre soap in wooden bowl
Filarmonica Doble Temple 13, black scales
Roger & Gallet L'Homme ASB
Nivea Creme
CREED Aventus EdP

...not had a shave this good in a long time!!

Greetings

Thursday 7th March 2013
Prep: Shower
Razor: Ever Ready Heavy Flat Top
Blade: GEM Blue Star Carbon
Brush: Vulfix 404 Mixed
Cream: Body Shop Macca Root
Aftershave: Simple Balm

A perfect shave both in terms of closeness and comfort, My initial negative comments about these carbon blades I unreservedly withdraw, they do feel different, but I am now sure that it only because PTFE coated blades 'slide' so effortlessly across the skin. These blades do cut every bit as good if not a tiny bit better. An all British shave apart from the blade.

Regards
Dick.

I to don't like the carbon blades but like the coated SS GEM blades a lot better :)

Very impressive soap, marzipan was subtle.

Thursday 7 March

Prep: Hot shower, Nivea Q10 Facial Wash
Pre: Cold Water and Proraso White
Brush: Grosvenor 404 Mixed
Soap: Viking (one more shave left with this cream)
Razor: US Gem
Post: Sal Alum, Thayers Witch Hazel ASL, L'Oreal Cool Kick After Shave Balm
Fragrance: L'Occitane Verdon Splash

Result: The Gem definitely bites. The Tasmanian Devil of my razors, without a doubt. I was reading up on the web about Gems and I read a review describing the sound as one shaves with a Gem being like a knife being dragged over dry toast. Spot on from my experience.

Not a great day for historical facts, apart from Alexander Graham Bell being awarded a patent for an invention he called the Telephone, back in 1876.

Good day, gents.

WARS
Vulfix Bodger
#11H service set New, Wilkinson Sword Saloon Pack
Barbershop Bay Rum
RSC balm

That's the WARS gone. 1st time with this blade, very good, sharp and smooth. Few small weepers but that's just me having to get used to the blade. I've been using up some less sharp blades of late, this one's sharper and I think I just need to back off a bit with it. BBS.

Thursday afternoon.

Prep: Cold water face wash
Soap: Nanny's Bergamot & Coriander soft soap
Brush: M&F Blonde Badger
Razor: Polished Weber/Bulldog handle
Blade: Rapira Swedish Supersteel (1)
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel, Weleda After Shave Balm
EdT: Lalique Hommage a l'Homme

Note to self: must order more Russian blades! They work really well for me and cost/performance ratio is excellent.

Hot flannel
Proraso pre, white
Simpsons Colonel X2L, T&H 1805 cream
Weber polished, Personna Red (1)
Cold splash, alum block
Clinique post-shave soother

Great shave. The Personna Red was the first proper blade I tried after two months practising on Derbys. I've tried so many excellent (and not so excellent) blades since that I've forgotten how good they are. On a par with the Lab Blues at the moment. The only drawback was working around the results of yesterday's bloodbath... only re-opened one nick though
