SOTD: Saturday March 18 - Friday 24 March 2023.

Thank you Shubs

Not meaning to hijack the thread - She has a heart condition which barely controllable. Last night she passed out on the landing (sudden severe drop in blood pressure), and fell head first down the stairs. I managed to break her fall half way down, but she is pretty bashed up. She passed out again while the ambulance crew were here. We were at the hospital until 4AM today. She has rested all day, and is feeling a little better.
Three years ago she was told she would have a heart ablation operation, but Covid put the brakes on that. Ever since, they have done their level best to not go ahead with the surgery (which is absolutely needed)

Thanks again.
Hi Paul,
That is quite devastating for you, just hope that she recovers as well as she can and gets some proper treatment, like the promised operation.
Best Wishes - Mike B

I'm probably about done with this blade, nothing to complain about yet but I'm probably pushing my luck. And back to my proper brush. I'm enjoying the soap more and more, works well, smells pretty good albeit quite strong.
No cuts or anything. Went for 3 thorough passes which felt smooth at the time, I'm now dimly aware of a slight irritation 5 min later which is probably a sign it's time for a new blade.

Schick repeater Type B with Supply blade
West German vintage badger
RazoRock Stallion soap

I cannot stop admiring the older Schick injectors especially the repeater razors. Fitted with a good blade they are just superb.
If you can get a Schick injector in your collection you will not regret it.
The gold coating is in great condition for nigh on a hundred years and counting. I’m not really one for getting these old razors refinished, they still work fine and the patina shows what sort of a life they have seen. Single wtg and atg passes and pick ups for a really easy and comfortable shave. A dash of Ralph’s Polo Blue and I’m good to go.
Have a good one fellas!

Vintage Wednesday (ish)
Pre - Pears Transparent Original
Brush - Vintage Culmak Junior - Pure Bristle
Soap - Vintage Cussons 1950's
Razor - Ever-keen SE Injector
Blade - Personna Injector
Post - Cold water Rinse
Balm - Floïd Balm
A/S - Floïd SE Mentolado Vigaroso
Wk 12 (5).JPG
So up today was the Ever-keen stropper reworked to take an Injector blade.
See here - Ever-keen Rework
So, As usual a lovely slick cushioning lather from the vintage Cussons and Culmak Jnr. Plenty of it too.
This "razor" is quite small, however, i did managed to sit it comfortably in my gorilla mits, thumb and forefinger an the top of the knurling and the bottom of the handle sitting on my Pinky, the two remaining fingers resting on the barrel, it felt comfortable enough.
I lathered up and away i went, the angle was very easy to find, i was quite surprised how comfortable it felt, starting with a shallow angle opening up until i was happy with how it was cutting, and boy was it cutting. I completed a full WTG pass without issue and the rinse off felt really good, some roughness on the neck and throat and a bit on the cheeks which i would usually get on the second pass.
Now then, what to do?
I remember from yesterday that @OrangeSport had asked me if i had given the R41GS a run out, it was planned for Friday's shave so was in the bathroom and loaded with a Rapira Plat Lux. Why the hell not, what could possibly go wrong?
Wk 12 (7)a.jpg
I loaded the face again with what was left of the lather, it was a really thick covering. The plan was to try to get a feel for this razor, i must admit one that i have avoided for a very long time due to its naughty reputation.
I decided on a light touch WTG pass, cheek to jawline then an ATG pass on the neck and throat.
Honestly, i don't know what all the fuss is about, to me this is nowhere near as naughty as the Dart - by a country mile. Yes, i was very careful, yes, i was mindful of angle - which was easy to find and Yes, it was only a single pass. I found it quite comfortable.
So i am Clean and fresh with a DFS finish with no errors - Just watch i will probably lose a lip on Friday :p.
My tube of Floïd Balm is burping as it is at its end, i may mix up a matching balm using E45, some Argan oil and a good dash of the Mentolado Vigaroso.
I did enjoy that bit of sink time,
Stay safe and enjoy your day all.

The Dart, I believe is schizophrenic, Tony.
One minute it behaves perfectly, the next - it slices you for fun!

Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 1,598

This is available to preorder now for April 5th. @mrdoug let me know Pasteur's was giving free samples in advance for the asking. It is an exclusive for them and a homage to Miles Davis and NYC Jazz.

Notes: tobacco leaf, tobacco flower, lemon, pink pepper, neroli, rum, tonic bean, dried fruit, cedar, vanilla bean

The scent is not a normal dupe, instead using a couple of different dupe oils and my own touch, making this an entirely unique scent. Birth of the Cool is one-third Maison Margiela Jazz Club, one-third Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, and one-third my own special tobacco scent blend."

The way the sample came was less than convenient but free is free and who can complain. I had trouble getting it open enough to get some out and ended up scooping all I could with a finger inserted into the tight envelope and smearing what I could get off my fingers and hand into my Turkish copper bowl. It's a soft soap for sure but produced a tremendous lather which had me thinking I do need to get some Macduff's into the den and the scent was a nice one to me and a good strength to enjoy throughout the shave. I was actually thinking I should just order it and then thought I should find another scent I like to get 2 and make shipping count. That's when my recent restraint thinking kicked in and I thought, I do want this one but don't need it now and will get it down the road and a 2nd with it if i find another scent I like when not in a rush. I loved the lather consistency which was easy to get and it rinsed clean from tools as well as cleanly off my face which some with tons of oile do not and bugs me. Macduff's will certainly be added to my den down the road. Everyone have a great day !
