I'll begin by saying I like SuperMax ...

I like SuperMax and their current epoch Super Platinum blades really are up there with, say, Gillette's Indian Super Platinum in the black packaging. The Dollar Platinum is marketed by SuperMax, so guess it's akin to the Rise or the Ninja ... marketed by SuperMax, distributed by SuperMax and no doubt made by SuperMax but not SuperMax. SuperMax in all but name.

... and that brings me to what I think of this blade.

It is good. I have read folks disappointment at it being good, but not great; sharp but not especially so, but smooth. Personally, I think it is good, verging on very good. I also think it is certainly sharp, evidenced by how my face feels after a single pass and always consider the lack of sharpness folks talk about with, say, Chrome or Platinum blades is because they're so damn smooth ... and this one certainly is.

In a lot of ways, it reminds me of the discontinued SuperMax Platinum+ which was really quite a good blade, certainly compared to the older and rather hateful Vidyut/SuperMax Platinum.

Not this one ...

It's not up there with the current offerings from SuperMax Super Platinum, like their global Blue Diamond, or Indian market Diamond Edge, but it's close. Where I rate, say, the SuperMax Blue Diamond Super Platinum or the Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum at 8.5; I rate the old(er) SuperMax Platinum+ at 7.5.

The Dollar Platinum earns an 8.3.

Razor: Hone 15
Blade: Wilkinson Sword Vintage, 3rd use
Brush: Shedeleven Spalted Scottish Hawthorn AP Shave Co G5C 26mm Fan
Bowl: Captains Choice Copper Lather Bowl Standard Bowl
Preshave: PAA Cube Unscented Soap
Soap: Lothur Tears Croap
Aftershave: Yaqi The Green Aftershave
Balm: Bart’s Balm Sample Balm
Additional Care: Osma Laboratoires Alum Block

Well it’s mad times indeed at the moment and even the ever mild and mellow Hone can be made to bite if your not concentrating at all and swinging it about like a mallet near your face. I exaggerate obviously but my lack of concentration has left me with a nice cut on the chin! Other than that wake up call though it was a delightful shave, the scent on the soap is just sweet, light but warming and the brush is now definitely my favourite.
Enjoy the evening guys.

Really nice scent from this soap. The lather is good too!
An enjoyable and good shave with this razor. The edge was crisp, smooth, and very comfortable after stropping on the balsa and buffalo leather. 3passes for a good dfs+/ccs result but 2 red spots from user mistake. Aftershaves were awesome.

Greetings,

Early morning shave,

The third outing was the acid test for the RK Stainless blade of which it still felt smooth with an efficient edge mowing down my stubble with ease.

The Proraso Sensitive shave cream is such a wonderful performer and creates a rich protective lather with only a small amount giving a great protective slickness and leaving a excellent post shave feel.

A enjoyable 2 pass + pick ups close comfortable shave with no errors to report...Finishing the shave off with a small dollop of Morrisons Aloe Moisture Lotion.

My face is feeling silky smooth & smelling divine. ;)

Keep safe, and enjoy your day ladies & gentlemen.

Brush: AP Lemon Drop TGN Boar
Soap: Stirling Ramblin' Man
Razor: Blackland Era OC 5 (Dodgy)
Blade: Nacet (2)
Post: Stirling Ramblin' Man AS & EDT

Last shave with the OC, want to wait until the replacement arrives which was dispatched last week (have to love that kind of customer service).

Been a while since the boar has seen the light of day, really is a good knot and the tall handle fits nicely in the hand. Whipped up a good lather and gave a decent scrub.

A close finish in an easy 2 pass, back to the SB tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a grand day!

Cheers

Marc

Moka Express Synthetic - Proraso Single Edge Wood & Spice - Katana/Personna Platinum+ - Lustray Spice AS

I have been using fairly mild razors recently so it didn't take long to remind me that the Katana needs respect!
2 passes and just a little touch up for an extremely smooth and close result :)

Last night's shave arrives on your screens themed, 'Angry'

20220313_170955.jpg

An angry razor - ATT G1
Or was it an angry blade? - GEM
Angry brush? Not so - Yaqi Dandelion
Nasty soap? I don't think so - Captain Fawcett's
Calming the anger - Boots styptic pencil

'Fucking anger management?'

So a new toy on the block and found loitering in the pages of the BST. It just loitered for too long.

Now, I am not normally a great fan of ATT razors, but this one did catch my eye being for GEM bladed. Having hundreds of the bloody things it gives me good reason to thin the collection.

Read the reviews, mild, okay then, a daily driver. Mmmmm. Nice. Military build quality in to the bargain.

Load the blade. WTF is all this about? It reminded me of those old steel puzzle rings where after hours of frustration a pair of pliers usually came in to play. Go on line to find some indication of how this thing goes together. All I found was pages and pages of someone called @Boycie83 giving his thoughts as how to build a G1 razor. Managed to get there in the end and lucky I still have 5 fingers on each hand. Read on, I am lucky still to have a face.

Fawcett's and a Dandelion. Just can't go wrong. And I didn’t. Perfect.

Hit it. Yup, mild alright and feeling good about this. Nice and easy.

Then out of the blue, 'slash', and the bastard opens up my cheek. Didn’t even feel it, but could certainly see a sea of red developing. Calling Dr Styptic. Phew. Give it another try, easing back a bit. Yup, more like it.

WTF!?

This is looking bad. A lifetime supply of cuts in 60 seconds. Something is not right here and I haven't got a clue what. Feels mild but the amount of stealth nicks appearing quickly has me quit the G1.

Step in Dr Mongoose and his baby shaving Proguard. By now the styptic has killed any joy of working with a fluffy lather and so it was a case of making whatever could be extracted from a bad job.

End results? Diabolical. Time to have a rest for a few days and walk away from my unplanned attempt at cosmetic surgery. Where are those 'Botched' guys when you need them?

Could it be a misalignment, a duff blade or simply me being useless? I will return to it in a few days time once my Frankenstein look has eased back.

So an angry shave needs to finish with an angry tune........

I love you all

Despite being the Ides of March, there was no blood massacre during shave four with the Rex Envoy! Although Caesar’s assassins would surely not have approved of a thing with the word Rex in its title.

I reverted to the Israeli Crystal for its third use and paid attention to my prep. Plenty of hot water on the face, and a handful of Proraso white pre-shave, which seems appropriate given the Rex’s creator’s love for all white Proraso products.

I was also careful with my strokes. Short and straight. No gliding, glancing or sliding. I properly bloomed P&B’s Trafalgar and made sure there was plenty on the brush and my face.

All of this gave me an enjoyable, close shave - without any blood. I thought I had caught myself once, but nothing spouted forth. The blade feel was uncomfortable only on the top lip, right under the nose, against the grain. It mowed down my neck, which is always my trickiest spot.

After three passes, I was done, very clean and unbloodied. I reached for the P&B Trafalgar splash, which I don’t believe has a high alcohol content but in any event I didn’t experience any burn. So I didn’t over-shave.

Lesson learned for this razor. Prep well, and choose your blade carefully. On the R41 I rarely use a new blade. This may not be necessary with the Envoy, but then again it may. :)

Stay safe and enjoy your shaves.
