SOTD: Saturday 4th December - Friday 10th December 2021.

Thursday DecemBOAR 9, 2021
Razor: 1934 Aristocrat
Blade: Wizamet
Brush: Vintage NOS Boar (Unbranded)
Soap: WK Dulci Tobacco Shave Cream
AS 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla 70
AS 2: CHH Tobacco
Fragrance:
Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 1128

The brush: Even after a couple test lathers and sitting all night with soap in it and re-rinsing this morning, it had a touch of funk scent to it but improved. The Good: NOT a SINGLE hair shed during all the prep and use. The Bad: these vintage are so small they don't make/hold enough lathe for 3 passes. That may improve as it breaks in so it will stay until I re-evaluate at that point.

The Cream from WK: Scent was more pronounced after lathering and it was SLICK for sure. Felt some burning though. Not sure if the brush (I doubt) or the Cream had something that messed with me (leaning to this)

The Razor: I like the shaves best of this Aristocrat over the 4th Generation 21/66 I had. Odd as this is an OC compared to the SB but it is what it is. The dilemma is do I leave as is (rough vintage loved shape and maybe a slight frown to it, sticking doors and perhaps something internal with the rod) or do I send to Razor Emporium for a revamp ? If I do send it in, do I get it in Gold a $40 increase from the Nickel. I'm NOT big on Gold razors and would prefer Nickel but some would consider that a travesty........The other option is to send in for a Tune-Up? Help me decide by giving your inputs please, especially Matt if he sees this !!
Off to my 12 hour workday, typical Thursday...........Have a GREAT day everyone !!

Zenith 507 Boar - Proraso Sandalwood - Feather AC SR/Feather Professional Super - Dunhill for Men

Nice to see the muscle memory still exists! It has been a while.
2 passes and a touch up for a shave which was 'practically perfect in every way'. (Sorry.....my wife is on a Mary Poppins binge at the moment}

My 10 cents worth Dave on your razor dilemma.
If the razor has special meaning to you and you have the original box, paperwork etc, I'd be tempted to get a revamp to original spec.
If its not of personal or sentimental significance then maybe just a tune up.
It might be worth a try putting it in the dishwasher and see if it becomes a bit more loose / free.
I have a 1966 Gillette Slim Twist that was jammed up solid when I got it. The adjuster knob turned ok from 1 - 9 but the blade tray wasn't moving.
I wasn't really too familiar with the mechanics of the razor but I reckoned maybe some old soap had got stuck somewhere.
I persevered by submersing it completely in a mug of boiling water & washing up liquid. I left it until the water was cold each time.
I did this six times before some old soap started breaking apart and falling out of the razor. It's perfect now.
I hope it all works out whatever you decide.

SOTD 9th Dec
Soap - Wickhams Parma Violet
Brush - Yaqi Giotto 24mm
Razor - Supply 2.0 2 dot Comfort plate
Blade - Supply Injector blade #2
Post - Barts Balm Grapefruit & Pink Pepper

And normal service is resumed after a rough previous shave with this blade. Smooth, slick and efficient finish on the second use.
Wonderful Wickhams scent and lather with my favourite brush ensured razor and blade provided 3 great passes. No better way to conclude proceedings than with Barts Balm.
Take care all and enjoy your shaves.

Thanks for the thoughts. No personal sentiments for me and original box is trashed except for the inside lining. Good advice, thanks

Sheesh! That is a sharp blade! Lovely two pass shave, one with and one against ... and I don't often go against the grain unless I'm very sure that the blade is seethingly sharp.
