S.O.T.D. w/c Sat. 4th January - Friday 10th January 2014, incl.

Hot flannel
Proraso pre, menthol
Muhle Silvertip, Nanny's hard soap, Cedarwood & Vetyver
Digress HD (#2), Rapira Swedish (2)
Cold splash
Proraso AS cream

Haven't posted on SOTD over the festive period, but been using the Digress and Muhle synthetic exclusively and getting very consistent shave.
Today was no exception.

Headshave

Gillette Fusion ProGlide
Clinique Aloe M Gel

Parfumerie Generale - Psychotrope EDT

... I think I might have discovered a replacement for the impossible to buy Creed Cuir De Russie. This one goes straight into the top 5 of my steadily growing 'to buy' list.

Sunday afternoon shave:

Cold water splash
Mitchell's Wool Fat
Shavemac 177 Silvertip
Weber Polished / Bulldog
Super Iridium (5)
Myrsol Emulsion, Clinique M-Lotion

Got 5 very consitent shaves out of this SI blade and it's only just starting to drop off. I won't push it to a 6th shave though as I don't like living too dangerously! New blade tomorrow.

Hot Towel
T&H Ultimate Comfort PSO
SuperMax Shaving Cream
Pure Badger 23mm
Gillette Super Adjustable 'Black Beauty' T1
Gillette Super Platinum (Black) [4]
Hot Rinse, Cold Rinse, Alum Wash & Witch Hazel
Old Spice Aftershave Lotion

Bowl Lathered
Three Pass - WTG (9), XTG (5) & ATG (3)

First shave with my beautiful birth year razor and I was not disappointed. I bought this razor from a chap here who described it as "mint", a description which I consider understated ... this is a flawless razor! The click of the adjuster and that final quarter turn clamp down, just beautiful actions.

I have been a little underwhelmed with the performance of the Gillette Super Platinum (Black). Indian made, I found them not at all smooth and perhaps a bit schizophrenic, nicking with light touches, yet not cutting without pressure ... but, today, I think I've found its perfect partner.

Beginning my shave with the razor wide-open, just to see, it whisked the lot away without effort. Dropping down to somewhere in the middle for a cross the grain pass and then down to low figures for a final pass against the grain, I love this razor.

It's up there ... certainly a top three double edge razor in my collection.

The shave? Perfect, flawless and very smooth indeed verging on my best yet.

Sunday Eve.

EJ DE87
7 o'clock yellow
NF Tubby1 in super 2 band
C&E sandalwood soap
C&E Sienna balm.

Nice and smooth and ready for the return to work.

Slim
Ecotools kabuki
Polsilver si (11)
Tabac
Lemon witch hazel
Aloe vera moisturiser

Definitely the final use of this blade! Still gota very smooth shave but the 1st pass was a bit too scrapey. The brush is brilliant for face lathering.

Gillette Contour
Tabac shaving soap, bowl
Edwin Jagger boar
Superdrug Forest Fresh

Surprised how good it was and really in the mood for the Forest Fresh.
My favourite shave for ages.

SUNDAY EVENING

Prep: Warm rinse, Ingram brushless massaged into beard
Brush: Neep jasper Aztec
Cream: GFT coconut - bowl lathered
Razor: Valet VC1
Blade: GEM
Post: Alum, Witch hazel, Institut Karite balm

My first go with this razor tonight. Odd shaving with it, it's almost silent.

I had to check it was cutting. Boy, was it cutting! This is pretty aggressive. It's given me an uber-BBS but quite a few nicks as I think I was too heavy-handed.

Don't think I could use it everyday, but with a lighter touch I reckon it could be a real corker.

Feather AC SS non-folding
Feather AC ProGuard (9)
Semogue LE Mistura
Vitos Extra Super Coconut
Weleda After Shave Balm
Serge Lutens Chergui edp

Back to work, back to 6.30 shaves. A quick two pass shave which was very comfortable with smooth results. No blood, no irritation. I think I'm getting the hang of the Feather. I'm still a little way off a completely BBS result (let alone consistently) but I'm on my way.
