Very Happy New Year: Mastro Livi RWL34

  • Pre-shave: Myrsol Emulsión
  • Soap: Tabac Shaving Soap
  • Brush: Muhle Nr. 281 H 23, Fine Badger, Pine - 21 mm - Size M
  • Bowl: Gerby Steel Bowl
  • Strop: Mastro Livi Loom Strop and Hand Palm Stropping
  • Razor: Mastro Livi RWL34, 9/8 Full Hollow, French Point
  • Post-Shave: Umbrian Extravirgin Olive Oil
  • After Shave: P.160 Ambre Dorée After Shave

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Proraso Pre-shave - sensitive
Soap: NSS Down Home Summer (soft)
Bowl: Woodhead Pedestal
Brush: Omega boar 10005
Razor: Fat Handled Tech
Blade: Feather (1)
After: M&S Harvard AS, Cade ASB

Giving this Fat Handled Tech another try with a sharp blade. Although an easy shave it didn't give a BBS and left some annoying whiskers under my chin and a few nicks. Think it's time we parted company.
I'm not a fan of feather blades. I can't really see what all the fuss is about. It seems no matter what razor I use with them they feel too scatchy, I'm sticking with my Rapira and Sputniks.

Happy New Year everyone.

I guess it counts as a 1st January shave, as I applied the AS at 4 past 12, but began the shave last year.

Wednesday 1st January 2014

Brush: Tubby 2
Soap: Cella
Razor: EJ barley
Blade: Gillette Nacet Stainless (6 or 7)
Post: Witch Hazel, Floid Vigoroso

Perfect. I really should use the Cella more. Wonderful shave, no sign of the blade giving up yet.

Happy new year, folks.

Very nice, Jamie. Are those the original scales? I like them in black. They look sturdier than most Filarmonica scales.

Wednesday 1st January 2013 New Years Day
Prep: 10 mile cycle aroung rolling hills of San Sebastian (VR cycle trainer) followed by hot shower
Razor: Gillette K2 travel razor fitted with prototype longer handle
Blade: Supermax Blue Diamond
Brush: Boar
Soap: Stirling Glacial

Soap and razor were from my Secret Santa. The razor is too good to keep for travelling and the handle is a bit short for everyday use so I knocked up a replacement. This is the second as I had a bit of a disaster with the first.

Happy New Year!

If only I had a GEM 1914, I would have shaved with it. Still, if I do pick one up soon I can shave with it for the razor's anniversary on 24th March. Here's hoping ...

I finally plucked up the courage to shave with my GEM Micromatic Open Comb and was truly rewarded ...

Hot Towel
Olive Oil Blend PSO
Taylor of Old Bond Street Eton College Shaving Cream
Pure Badger 23mm
GEM Micromatic Open Comb
GEM Stainless PTFE [3]
Hot Rinse, Cold Rinse, Alum Wash & Witch Hazel
Boots Bay Rum

Face Lathered
One Pass - WTG & Polishing

With a gentle touch on two day's worth of growth, the open comb scythed through my whiskers in the first pass leaving me with little more to do than gently polish up, behaviour reminding me very much of the Muhle R41. What a waste of a the lovely lather from the Taylor's cream, a subtle slice of citrus over patchouli.

The Bay Rum is lovely - very short lived and just a brief scent of the West Indies, but so soothing. I know it's for hair, but it also makes a lovely aftershave.

Wednesday

Evening, all.

Prep: Claus Porto's Lime-oil face soap
Razor: EJDE89 with Bulldog handle
Blade: Derby (6)
Brush: Ecotools Kabuki
Shave soap: MWF
Aftershave: Yellow Ginger
Cologne: Rive Gauche Intense

A great start to the new year. Happy 2014, gentlemen.

BACK TO WORK TOMORROW SHAVE

Prep: Hot rinse then Prep cream massaged into beard
Razor: Feather AC Teak
Blade: Feather Proguard
Brush: Coates Fitzwilliam
Shave soap: Mama Bears Bacon - suribachi lathered
Post: Witch hazel, GFT Sandalwood

Haven't shaved since Monday so a very close shave tonight.

Not sure how much longer it will be until I get sick of the bacon soap, but it produces fantastic lather. My last Mama Bears was crap as I left it in the wooden holder. I now dunk it in the sink, leave it in the suribachi for a bit then attack it and it produces a very nice lather.

On another note I reckon this Proguard is easily into the twenties and not blunting at all.
