Using up these two blades I got myself a good shave and did a bit of buffing which was probably a mistake. The aftershave stung like a bastard!

A quick 2x WTG evening shave, leaving me fine above the jawline but rough under the chin. I cannot get a particularly smooth shave from this unless I go ATG.

Merkur 34C HD
Gillette 7 o'clock yellow
TOBS Lavender cream
Rooney style 2 brush
Crabtree and Evelyn West Indian Limes cologne

Face lathered, 2 basic passes and a really good result, smooth and fresh. Normally Monday is a slant day but I was surprised at how well the old HD mowed down 2 full days, I'll use it all week this week.

A nice 2 pass cold water face lather shave, The Rapira Stainless, not a bad blade for 2 shaves, i might try the Rapira Super Stainless next.

Nice lather from the shave stick, doesnt smell too bad. i now know which shave sticks i will be keeping and which will go in BST shortly as a bundle.

On to my untried soaps next, to see which are keepers.

The razor needed a little touch up. This was the first time I have taken a 'decent' razor to the hone. 30 laps on a Purple Welsh Slate, followed by 100 on leather. A definite improvement although not as smooth as the professional job originally done. Prior to this I used diamond strops for maintenance of this razor. I am not sure whether the result was due to my lack of honing experience or the properties of the hone.....or a combination of both I did however have a close and comfortable 3 pass shave.

Prep: Shower
Razor: PAL Injecto-Matic
Blade: ASR Carbon (NOS)
Brush: Semogue 830 Boar
Cream: T.O.B.S. Mr. Taylor
Aftershave: La Toja

These old carbon blades (circa I believe late fifties) pulled like mad, but delivered a great shave, really strange.

I suspect there is nothing wrong with the edge on these old blades it is just that we are all so used to blades with coatings that cause them to 'glide' over the skin.

A great finish but an unpleasant and uncomfortable experience getting there!
