SOTD Sat 23rd Feb - Fri 1st Mar 2013...

This morning:

Prep: Cold rinse
Razor: Myers & Son 6/8"  hollow ground
Brush: Simpson Duke 3 in two-band best
Soap: D R Harris lavender
Aftershave: Prof Blighty's Red Ginger
Scent: Penhaligon's Endymion

The very best of British? Lovely shave.

Thursday:

Zuri soap/La Toja stick
Semogue SOC Boar
Gem OCMM
Gem blade
Witch Hazel
DR Harris Windsor AS
Nivea Skin Energy ASB
DR Harris Windsor EdT

I haven't used the Zuri soap for ages, so broke it out this morning. The lather seemed to disappear after the first pass; it just turned into a mass of bubbles. So I washed the lather off my face and out of the brush and lathered up with my La Toja stick, much better.

Great shave in the end, glad I didn't persist with the Zuri. I'm not sure sub-standard lather and a razor as aggressive as the OCMM is a good mix!

Thursday 28th February 2013
Prep: Shower
Razor: GEM Pushbutton
Blade: GEM Blue Star Carbon
Brush: Semogue OC Boar
Cream: La Toja Sensitive
Aftershave: Nivea Sensitive Balm

Another try with the carbon blades and this time a very nice shave indeed and absolutely zero tenderness which was my complaint when I first tried them a couple of weeks ago. Judgement is reserved pending further shaves!

This time I did palm strop this new blade first, but I never really know if this achieves much.

Regards
Dick.

Thursday

Kent T4
Martin de Candre in wooden bowl
Filly 13 DT, black scales
Castle Forbes Lavender balm
Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza

The CF and MdC worked together a treat. Face feels so smooth!!

Morning, everyone.

Thursday:

Prep: Claus Porto Lime-oil face soap
Razor: EJ DE89 head with an iKon Bulldog handle
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (6)
Brush: Ecotools Bamboo Finishing Kabuki brush

A/S: Professor Blighty's Soft Vanilla

Most satisfactory.

Today, a full Aqua Velva shave!

And third use of this Contour razor: yes, it shaves better in the first pass but if I want a really close shave I need almost the same number of passes than with double edge razors. Anyway, nicks&irritation probability is lower.

Cheers!

Hot shower
Hot flannel
DR Harris Arlington cream scuttle lathered
Simpsons Commodore x3 best badger brush
Merkur 37c slant
Gillette 7 oclock permasharp (Indian green) (1)
Cold rinse
Witch hazel
DR Harris Arlington aftershave

Close comfortable shave, the 7 oclock permasharp gets the job done in the slant. I've been spoilt previously with the Polsilver super iridiums which are sharp and ultra smooth for me.

Thursday afternoon.

Prep: Cold water face wash
Soap: TOBS Jermyn Street
Brush: M&F Blonde Badger
Razor: English Fat Handle Tech
Blade: Astra SP (3)
A/S: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel, Weleda After Shave Balm
EDT: Penhaligon's Opus 1870

Got a little carried away today due to mildness of the Tech and ended up with a couple weepers. Astra was on its last legs too. New blade and new approach tomorrow!

Hot flannel
Proraso Pre, white
Simpson Colonel X2L brush, TOBS Jermyn St cream
Weber Polished, Personna Lab Blue (2)
Cold splash, alum block
E-shave post-shave soother

Surprise of the day was finding a tube of Jermyn St cream at the back of the cupboard... lovely stuff.
Started out determined to give my Atlas R1 another go, but ditched it after two eye-watering scrapes... going back to the Weber was beautiful. I'm now savouring the results of an irritation-free shave for the first time in a week
First try of the E-shave soother.. it's one of those that reacts with the alum block, so I'll have to have an extra rinse and whatever tomorrow... currently preferring my Clinique at the moment, but it's all sunk in well and isn't sticky... so I'll give it a decent try

Today's Shave
Ever ready Shovel (The LU-LU Razor)
GEM Blade
NSS French Lavender
Kent Bk8 Brush

Result BSS WTG

No pictures, new camera, hopefully pictures tomorrow if el thicko here has worked things out

Prep: Cold Water Splash
Razor: FaTip Weber Bulldog Handle
Blade: Bolzano Superinox #1
Brush: Neep 26x48 Stone Extra Silvertip
Soap: Lea Stick
Post: Proraso Menthol Post Cream
AS: Speick Splash

2 pass cold water face lather shave.

1st time i've used this blade, very tuggy, in the bin after the first shave, on par with Supermax super stainless...

I've used rubbish blades all this week!

Prep: Bulldog Face Wash in shower
Razor: Futur
Blade: Personna Lab or Med, not sure which (#3)
Soap: Kent shaving soap
Brush: Some giant Omega boar thing
A/S: T&H Spanish Leather
Post: Cowshed Bullocks Moisturiser

Overall not bad, but I'm just too heavy handed to use really sharp blades in the Futur. Will dig out something a little milder tomorrow.

THURSDAY EVENING

TFI Friday tomorrow. I'm knackered!

Aristocrat #16
Super Iridium (2)
Semogue Il Rasoio LE brush
Irsch Moos shave stick - face lathered
Witch hazel
Castle Forbes AS balm

Best shave of the week. I can see why these blades get such glowing reviews. They are wonderfully smooth.
