SOTD Sat 23rd Feb - Fri 1st Mar 2013...

Prep: Hot shower
Brush: Vie-Long silvertip
Razor: No name Solingen extra hollow blade
Cream/edt: Penhaligon's Endymion
AS: Mennen S B
Strops: Neil Miller
Result: Lousy

Well, sometimes you get a lousy shave and I blame the cream :D Seriously, I bought it when on sale and I seriously think there was something wrong with the batch they sold out ... or I had a lousy shave, all by myself :)

First impressions of Merkur 37c Slant

Merkur37cSlant-2_zpsa9a1723c.jpg

Prep: Shower
Pre: Proraso Pre-post
Razor: Merkur 37c Slant
Blade: 7 o'clock green
Cream: TOBS St. James Collection
Brush: Traditional Shaving Co. Pure Badger
Bowl: Korean stainless steel rice bowl
Aftershave: Alum, Nivea Post Shave balm

Very curious to see how my new Slant would perform. All prep was the same as I've been using all week for comparison purposes. Cold water shave.
At first it was a really weird feeling and difficult to judge the cutting angle but soon got used to it. I was aware of the blade so kept a very light touch. I now understand what people mean by an "efficient razor" it does the work without you noticing the action. Did my usual three passes WTG, XTG and ATG.

End result. Extraordinary BBS with no irritation. Top marks from me.

NotTheStig, didn't you get your Slant recently? Waiting to hear your impressions...

Saturday 23rd February

Hot Shower and Facial Scrub
Vitos Pre/Post cream
Merkur 11C/Rapira Blade
Muhle Kosmo Silvertip Fibre Brush
Real Shaving Company Cream
Tea Tree and Peppermint Toner
Organic Shea Butter
Superdrug Forest Fresh AS
Dax Super Neat Pomade

I think the time has come to move some of my DE razors on to 'greener pastures' I am shaving with a few of them to decide which ones should go. Perhaps not a good idea. This was a 3 pass BBS.

Gillette New
Trig (1)
SOC boar
Cella
Witch hazel
Dior Home

Shaved late last night before the girlfriend arrived (late shift). Rough shave with a few weepers - I'm disposed to blame the blade. I'll see how they fare in my Weber tonight. I do rather like Dior Homme but this reformulation is disappointing. I doubt I'll replace it when this 50ml runs out.

Pre hot towel plus AoS oil + AoS Sandalwood shaving cream + Kent BK8 Silvertip + Gillette Super Adjustable with Croma + Mennem Grand Large splash with GFT Skinfood Sandalwood

Today, a true warm sandal luxurious shave, gentlemen!

Very clean!

Cheers!

Hot flannel
Proraso pre, white
New Forest 1901 brush, Nanny's Cedarwood and Vetyver hard soap
ATT Atlas R1, Astra SP (1)
Cold splash, alum block
Clinique post-shave healer

Tried out two new acquisitions today:
The NF 1901 brush... lovely, worked very well with the hard soap, but I'll try face lathering with a shaving stick next (that's why I got it, for travel). A small brush, but perfect for me
The Atlas R1... covered in more detail in the Atlas thread... think it may be too aggressive for me, but I'll give it a few more goes.

Result... very smooth after just two uncomplicated passes, but left a bit raw

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

Savile Row badger
'Webly'/Perma-Sharp (NOS)
Surrey SS (pre VDH reformulation)
Boots AS Balm
CdG 'Red Sequoia' EdT

This old UK blade really is a good one. Three extremely pleasant shaves so far. Nice of NTS to introduce these to me.

The Surrey soap performed it's usual magic. Perfect mix of cushion/slip, even though the scent is pretty dull. I will choose performance over scent more often than not.

BBS results,

Martin

Saturday:

Mitchell's Wool Fat
Semogue SOC Boar
Gem Clog Pruf
Gem blade
Witch Hazel
Nivea Anti irritation balm.

Awful shave. Weeper central for some reason. Close enough but really uncomfortable. I usually find these blades a bit harsh on their first shave, but this is another level!

Saturday 23rd

Hot shower
Hot flannel
Nanny's Warm spice hard soap scuttle lathered
Simpsons POLO 8 best badger brush
Merkur Progress long handle set at 2.5
Gillette super thin (2)
Cold rinse
Witch hazel
DR Harris Arlington aftershave

Close and smooth shave, the Arlington aftershave a lovely scent and calming on the skin very nice :)

Afternoon, gents.

Saturday:

Prep: Claus Porto Lime-oil face soap
Razor: EJ DE89 head with an iKon Bulldog handle
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (1)
Brush: Ecotools Bamboo Finishing Kabuki brush
Shave soap: Imperial Leather Bath Soap
A/S: Ricardo L'Homme - Musk

Thought I'd see how my bar of Imperial Leather works as a shave soap.
Pro:
That scent!
It was just about protective enough

Con:
Ultra-light lather that started to disappear after thirty seconds.
Felt drying on my face

A good smooth shave. I wish there were a real Imperial Leather shave soap avilable. And IL aftershave, and Eau de Toilette...

Soap: MWF
Brush: Simpson Duke 3 Best
Razor: Polished Weber/Bulldog handle
