SOTD Sat 15th Sept to Frid 21st Sept 2012

THURSDAY EVENING

Gillette New long comb
Feather (3)
New Forest 2221
Klar Kabinett - scuttle lathered
Witch hazel
Castle Forbes balm

A Feather is a strictly two use and bin blade for me. Reasonable result tonight, but a bit of burn and a couple of nicks. I could feel the blade dulling badly on my final ATG pass.

Given how expensive these are I personally don't think they're worth the money but that's IMHO of course.

It was like riding a bike. Nice shave and good result.

Ian

Just when I think we've lost you to cartridges... :). Glad it was good.

I love the romance and comfortable aftermath of my honed straights, but the Feather remains the single best shaving tool I have encountered.

This morning:

Prep: Face wash, Imperial Leather bath soap, cold
Razor: Kropp 6/8", black horn scales, restored by UKRob
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 in best
Soap: Taylor's sandalwood stick
Aftershave: Prof Blighty's Rosewood
Scent: Trumper's Sandalwood

Possibly my favourite razor. Outstanding.

So nice I had to use it twice!

Friday:

Tabac soap
Semogue SOC Boar
Ever Ready Streamline
GEM blade (5)
LEA AS Balm

Very nice. I was short of time this morning so skipped the XTG pass and just went WTG, ATG and a bit of a polish. Same great results and about 2 minutes saved...it all counts in the morning!

Friday morning

Pre-shave soap: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
Cream: DR Harris Rose
Brush: Butterscotch Duke 3
Razor: Dovo "Best Quality" 6 / 8 straight; '72 Gillette black-handled TTO
Blade: SuperMax super plat #1
Post: Cold rinse, DR Harris pink AS
EdT: Floris No. 89

Friday

Feather AC SS
Feather Proguard Blade
Edwin Jagger Silvertip Brush
Proraso Cream (The green un)
Proraso a/s

Tried something slightly different on the right side of my neck which I probably shouldn't have done. Good result, anyway.

Ian

Friday 21st September 2012
Prep: Shower
Razor: GEM Contour
Blade: GEM Stainless Coated
Brush: Turkish No. 6
Soap: Kent Luxury (Mitchell's Wool Fat)
Aftershave: Adidas Balm

The GEM Contour arrived in the post yesterday from the USA in far better condition than I thought (virtually mint) and it is a heavier razor than I thought it would be. A gentle but a great shave, adequate aggression to do a first class job on my medium beard but a little more touching up is required compared to the slightly 'fiercer' SE models.

Regards
Dick.

Friday
white proraso pre post
Neo Custom 2 band
White proraso soap
Ej Bull mastiff + shark SC (1)
Thayers Superhazel
Proraso ASB

result 2passes + touch ups. very close. A little tingle with the superhazel, and I knew it was close. Still working on getting a good lather from this soap - more loading needed methinks.

Having spent some time with this razor now, I can really notice the difference with blades. Too mich swapping and changing is a bad thing.

Bit of a break through shave today, quick, easy, clean and smooth.

Muhle R89
Gillette silver blue
Semogue OC Boar
Nanny's Lavender soft
Sudocrem

the nannys was brilliant and i'm left with minimal irritation. I usually don't shave at a weekend but im debating it now.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage butterscotch Ever Ready badger
1958 Executive/Perma-Sharp Platinum (NOS...thanks Jamie)
Lentheric SS (vintage)
Barbershop Bay Rum AS
Aramis 'Havana' EdT (old juice)

BBS results,

Martin

Do you not find sudocrem is very messy and leaves a white residue?

i smear it on after the shave, leave it a few minutes then wipe it off. It leaves no visable residue but you can feel it on your skin.

Razorock XXX + Omega 31052 AKA 81052 + Weber ARC Bulldog with Croma #2 + Myrsol Agua de Limón with Herbíssimo balm

First shave with this Omega boar! Very different to Semogues for sure, its tips are soft from the beginning and isn't so foam hunger. I had for 3 passes without problem and very pleasant for facelathering. It's not very dense and is a bit floppy but for my lathering style is ok. A really good acquisition!

Cheers!
