SOTD Sat. 13th April to Fri. 19th April 2013

From last night (19/04)

Prep: Cold Water Prep
Razor: Fatboy @ 7 then 5
Blade: NOS Scottish Perma-Sharp
Brush: Shaving.ie Silvertip
Soap: Palmolive Cream
A/S: Home Made batch + Nivea Sensitive balm

Result: Second shave with the Fatboy went a little better than the first. The higher settings definitely made a difference, although still not as close as I found with the Slim after 2 passes. Maybe I'll crank it up to 8 tonight.

The angle is still alluding me for the more awkward areas and it seems harder to immediately tell when it's cutting or not - this isn't necessarily a bad thing.

First time with the Palmolive cream from Germany (I haven't used the one available here yet so I don't know how they compare, but I'd imagine they're the same). Really nice, fresh smell to it and easily lathered. Good performance. Not much else to say about it!

Greetings

Friday 19th April 2013
Prep: Shower
Razor: Valet Autostrop (English Model)
Blade: Feather SE
Brush: Semogue 620 Boar
Soap: Klar Kabinett
Aftershave: Astral Cream (light)

My first shave with this recently acquired razor and it was a very nice shave indeed.

This is according to my research the last model of Valet Autostrop razor made, it was manufactured between 1941 and 1946 and has a guard bar in place of the open comb which featured in all the other models. I guess this was in keeping with most of the DE razors of the period who were changing or had changed to guard bars.

Valet gave this guard bar the grand name of a 'Streamline Runner-Guard'.

Personally I felt it shaved just the same as the late model Valets with the open comb heads.

A very nice razor, I would now just like to obtain one of the very early Autostrop razors 1906 ish before they were known as Valet.

Regards
Dick

Usual shower and soap routine
Proraso White pre applied with brush
Palmolive stick
Kent Infinity Synthetic - very impressive
Fat Boy with Gillette Super Thin loaded
Three passes: 7;5;3 (7 a bit fierce, 3 too mild)
Cold splash
Alum
Nivea Sensitive ASB

Result: not a bad shave, some weepers. Will change to a Polsilver SI tomorrow and try settings 6;4;4

Prep: Proraso White
Cream: Dr Harris Windsor
Brush: NF Tubby 1
Razor: Weber DLC/UFO Red Goliath XL
Post: Profs ASB mixed with 444

Beautiful shave, super BBS and smelling great I just love Windsor. Shame about having to go to work really!

Monsavon
Henk walnut silvertip
Gillette New Standard (New Improved) from 1921
Polsilver Super Iridium (second shave)
Vintage Imperial Leather aftershave splash (circa 1951)

Superb. I should use the Monsavon more often. The New Standard worked really well with the blade. I didn't want to push for BBS on the neck but got it easily on the face. The old aftershave really cools the skin; nearly as strong as Proraso but without the smell of mint.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage rebranded Simpsons best
'Webly'/Wilkinson Super Sword Edge (NOS)
The Soap Opera Himalaya SS (great bang for the buck soap)
Boots AS Balm

BBS results,

Martin

The very first shave since I received the razor, I somehow knew this razor would deliver a great shave, and without fail she did not disappoint, as with my other folding Kamisori this ones a keeper for sure.
