Notes: Close and smooth(ish) 2-pass shave. I wanted to see whether this regrind would actually work or not. The edge seems to have held up reasonably well - a good razor still. Very keen - managed to slice off a spot.
Have a great week all!

That was my Icelandic shave while on holiday this weekend. Well, the gear was top notch and performed as expected, but what made a real difference was the water. Never in my life I've seen something quite similar - it's is absolutely no doubt the softest and purest water in this hemisphere. Problem with it is feels almost like oil on the skin - so it's hard to know if you're BBS yet! Feels like it after a first pass. Anyway, back to London now, but I know for sure that this is a destination I will certainly be returning to at some point.

Monday afternoon.

Prep: Cold water splash
Soap: Maca Root Cream
Brush: Morris & Forndran Blonde Badger
Razor: Polished Weber/Bulldog handle
Blade: Personna Med Prep (4)
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel, Clinique Post Shave Healer
EdT: Lalique Hommage a l'Homme

Tried a sample of Maca Root that I picked up from The Body Shop on Saturday. Smells really nice once lathered up (totally different than in the container IMO) and provides slick protection. Impressed!
Feels like I could get a 5th shave out of the Med Prep, but I don't think I'll chance it. Great blade.

Today's shave

Merkur 23C/R41 handle
Feather Blade
TOBS Sandalwood+Geo.f.trumper sandalwood skinfood mixed in
Alum block
Result BSS WTG

Never was impressed with the 23C Long handle razor since I got it.

The long thin handle getting in the way of proceedings, so I decided to put the R41 handle on.
The shorter length allows more attack, and a slightly top heavy vibe, but a soother shave, surprisingly I did manage to nick myself with this combo, the alum block sorted out the mistake.
I'll have to watch out the next time I use this set up.

Afternoon, everyone.

Monday:

Prep: Claus Porto Lime-oil face soap
Razor: EJ DE89 head with an iKon Bulldog handle
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock Super Platinum (2)
Brush: Wilko's cheapie
Shave soap: Tabac
A/S: Tabac
Cologne: Tabac

Still a little nicky, but after splashing the Tabac on and drying off you'd never have known it. Two BBS's in a row, as well.

This morning:

Prep: Cold rinse
Razor: Ford & Medley 7/8 wedge, palm wood
Brush: Neep #1033 soapstone ball and bobbin 24mm high mountain badger
Cream: Truefitt and Hill #10
Aftershave: Prof Blighty's Green Ginger
Scent: Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet

Another lovely shave. Seems I like wedges :).

muhle r89/ rapira swedish supersteel
muhle r41/ derby
semogue 620
monsavon
agua balsamica/ 444
montana parfum d'homme edt

strange shave. i used the r89 for the first time in ages and remembered why i dont use it more often. way too mild, changed to the r41 to finish and ended up with a pretty decent shave.

Vitos shaving soap
Henk walnut silvertip
Schick I type injector
modern Schick blade
James Bronnley a/s balm

Good shave. Vitos is lovely - thick, creamy almond, easy lather. This blade is excellent after two or three shaves.
James Bronnley is OK if a little thin

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage rebranded Simpsons best
'Webly'/Schick Plus Platinum (NOS)
Surrey SS (pre VDH reformulation)
Boots AS Balm
no EdT (odd)

This old soap is pretty damn good. I had actually been looking for this particular batch for a couple years on and off. One of the soaps that doesn't melt well, unlike the newer old ones. I think this small puck must be tallow based......post shave skin care is right up there with MWF.

So the shaves I get now are mostly about perfect, as long as I use my favorite items. Very nice knowing the razor, blade, and soap are all ones that fit me exactly right. No drama to my shaves most days, which is what I prefer now. Pretty dull eh?

BBS results,

Martin

MONDAY EVENING

Prep: Hot flannel
Razor: Aristocrat #16
Blade: Gillette Super Platinum (3)
Brush: Semogue LE 2012 2 boar
Shave soap: Wilkie stick - face lathered
Balm: Castle Forbs

Surprisingly, I could feel the blade getting rather blunt on the final ATG pass. Consequently a smooth shave, but with a couple of weepers and some irritation.

Voskhod tomorrow I think!
