June 2020 acquisitions

Now that the local Afro Carib hair extension/soap/product/etc shops have reopened I popped in and bought a bottle of Denim splash.

First shaving purchase in a really long time, but I've compensated for this by falling off the wagon for buying guitar gear and this month I have bought 2 guitars (1 acoustic, 1 electric) and 3 pedals. SAS (Shaving Acquisition Syndrome) was definitely less impact for my finances than GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)!

This brush from Haryali arrived this morning ...

It was about a tenner and features dark synthetic fibre.

I've had a dark fibre from Edwin Jagger before, which was horrible - the knot was a dud to start with and the fibre was nasty. Test lathering this one from Haryali, I think I am really going to enjoy it. The fibre is a little scritchy and reminds me of horse hair, without the laughable tangling issue. While not the polar opposite to, it is the opposite of the Cashmere knot.

The handle itself was a surprise! I fully expected plastic. No, it's heavy porcelain. Heavy in the hand and keeps nicely warm after even a quick immersion in hot water. I'll have to be careful not to drop it in a porcelain basin!

Oh, and a FEATHER Popular because I've not tried one before. I had a run through with it last night and it's perfectly sound. Quite enjoyable, even.

I had to stop buying music magazines to stop wanting to buy new gear. I also came off this forum for about 8 - 10 years until a few months ago to stop wanting to buy new shave gear. I came back and it's not going so well.

I remember denim from being a kid. Someone had loads of sample patches they had left over from deliveries or something. It was my first try at any scent, I was only about 6-8 though. A nice smell.

I've not bought any new music magazines in ages! Sight on Sound would make me ask myself questions no man should ever have to ask themselves 'Why should I not buy a new valve mic preamp?' No man should have to ask themself such a question on a grey Thursday afternoon.

I actually frequent a guitar forum but I've not bought anything for a while, but I came across a few great bargains that were almost too good to refuse so I didn't! I'm actually really enjoying my new guitar related purchases even though I didn't spend much money on them in the grand scheme of things, the acoustic guitar was £125, all the pedals were less than a £100 combined and I'm probably using these more than I've used any of my guitar for a good while. Even though for shaving/guitar one doesn't need to buy anything new to enjoy the hobby I've found the occasional new purchase can bring some pleasure nonetheless.

I'm liking the scent of the Denim, seems like a nice old school familiar classic of sorts. Do you have any Afro-Carib style soap/hair extension type sellers in North London where you are? In the South there are a few scattered around the place and they usually seem to stock a few classic splashes, eg all the different types of Brut, Denim, Bay Rum and Florida Water. Maybe not the most exciting splashes but usually at £3 or less they are good splashes for daily use.

Incoming shaving porn bundle from @Boycie83 - nice packaging - but the Cheezy Wotsits were well stale - shame on you!

Nice - although, I don't need to - I'm going to shave - my first Extro soap. Thanks mate - sort out your crisps though? - I.

Background - hand woven Daghestani carpet - although I realise - looking at the picture - it needs swept - the most valuable thing I own - possibly with the exception of my Leicas. Tribal pattern - which of course - has a mistake in it - in the knotting - as is typical of carpets made by Muslims - perfection belongs to Allah.

Bloody hell, that is interesting! Thanks Iain.

That actually led me on to the Prince Philip movement:

Something I'd met first hand as I used to sail the Pacific Islands back in the 70's. A strange background for a cult if ever. Guess that is cults for you though

There are shops in London and probably locally that sell Denim. I hardly wear scents these days so wouldn't be buying any.

As I was scrolling down, I thought, I bet thats a package from Boycie. He seems to have put together some great value packages.
