What's goin on Slimbo,

Just wanted to thank you for doing what I couldn't bring myself to do. That damn 'mint' thingy was driving me nuts! I woulda never used that razor if I coulda found myself a daily beater. Since even those are a little tough to come by, I hadda use that unblemished one. It was a living hell. Now I don't even care if I drop the thing. Whew...that's a relief.

As you know, I clean most of those razors you buy (74 at the last count) using a tried and true method of spit and a not too dirty bathroom towel. That goofy #16 didn't even need that treatment before I sent it along. Still, I almost 'cleaned' it anyway, only because it's something you've come to expect.

From what I've read, the #16 is made from one large block of pure Rhodium. Weight after initial production is just over 300g, which is a bit on the heavy side. This particular UK made Gillette was then sent to a small town in Minnesota USA, where it had numerous coatings of Upsidaisium applied. That brought the weight down to around 77g or so. From Minnesota it was shipped back to England, where two more coats of Rhodium were applied and done deal! The razor ended up weighing just over 80g, which feels pretty darn good. Kind of an interesting story......

RE: 14 jan onwards...Rapira does 99th shave...#16 in da house.

Dear dalliance

Well every now and then the god of razors meets the god of blades and they have a bit of a party.
Woo hoo!!! Like a Marbella discotheque lather everywhere.
In my case QED rose. In fact give it to someone as Turkish delight. It's that rosy!
The razor in this case is the solid rhodium ahem aristocrat #16 pictured above. That's it before I made it nice and scratchy. Makes upsidaisyum look great!
The blade I chose after hovering over the blade stash a Nacet.
Sharp enough of course, to cut a croc in half.
Lovely warm lather. QED always delivers.
Then with bolts of lightening and rolls of thunder the two combine with each other in a strange and sublime way.
This is the best TTO shave I've had. Only the merkur and pomco are closer. Oh and the fatboy is in the hunt too.
Over 80 gms with the solid baseplate head (like the junior)
Makes shaving light and easy. The barberpole grip a joy. And last it's a thing of beauty in it's own right.
Thanks for the loan volderdodge.

RE: 14 jan onwards...When great engineering meets a well honed blade...yum!

Dear duty

It was with some anticipAtion, of a good sort that I approached the sink with today.
Shiny shiny #16. Ahem. I fibbed when I said I'd scratched and banged it all up.
I amusing it very carefully so it retains its lustre and shine.
I wear kid gloves with a non Acidic outer liner. Like handling a rare book.
Kinky eh?! I'm still wearing them even now....
Nacet. So sharp it can etc etc
2213
Lush
Wilkinson sword ASB. Actually made my face tingle a bit.
Still the most awesome shave.
The cats and the neighbours cats will love this one.
This razor is high on the list of if you could only have one which would it be.
Fatboy still tops that one.

RE: 14 jan onwards...When great engineering meets a well honed blade...yum!

Dear drooper

Remember that? Banana Splits?
Any hoo it's official. Certified. 100% solid truth. Gilt edged. A dead cert.
In short.
A winner.
The award for the bestest non adjustable TTO goes to....
Pause of anticipation...
The crowd holds it's breath....
Someone nips off for nervous wee...
A cough breaks the silence and a slight whine of feedback slices through the tense atmos

Soz on iPhone pressed wrong thingy I shall resume...

The gold envelope is sliced open by a slighty shaking hand...
And the award goes to..
Pause...
But first I shall give out the nominees. The audience gets restless.
Aristocrat junior with the solid brass flat base plate for quiet efficiency.
Next USA diplomat for oozing class.
#16 in rhodium for peerless performance
And finally superspeed for being there when it mattered.

And the winner is...
Crowd breaths in in one collective gasp...
#16 for peerless performance.
The spotlight focuses in on #16 who is crying as he makes his way to the podium to accept his award.
If these were the razor oscars they'd probably be....
Cheers

RE: 14 jan onwards...razor oscars....

Dear dappled

No shave Sunday. Had mighty head as a result of the god of wine meeting the god of beer.
Daughter away for night with aunty so the grown ups went out....
Just as I thought about bed we went to the pub.
Sorted. Didn't eat next til 11....
But that blowout should last me at least until Christmas time. Ahem. Next Friday.
I spent the whole day decorating. Yes DIY.
Usually I do GSE.
Get someone else. So
Someone who knows what they are doing.
I bought some real wood flooring. It said on the web site a great DIY project....
It took fully pimped carpenter four days...

Holy Cucamongeese (UK variation of Cucamonga),

Look how long that 'yummy' sound is. Guess the razor's a pretty tasty one.

Heh, I remember it being very good, but not on the same level as your experience. I think you musta somehow bonded with that 60+ year old piece. Yeah, kinda like the bond between humans and sugargliders...very special. Sheeesh, I hope the razor doesn't resent me when it gets back to the arsenal.

Dear Klemel

Well I I'm going to have to get a sugar glider then! Probably not as close a finish with one. The razor wont resent you at all. You will always be 'Dad'...60 yrs and soo fresh. Like your good self.
Hey i could kill two birds with one stone so to speak.
It would give the cats a break.
As they grow a huge amount of wine in the Cucamonga region I feel a visit coming on.
Yrs in shaving,

RE: 14 jan onwards...razor oscars....

Dear Dumpy

as well as razors and watches have become infatuated with the London Underground.
It's a London thing.
That's where my roots are. It's such a cool vibe daddy o.
I am doing out my bathroom....
in the style of a station. Tiles and all.
Go on the London Transport Museum site. Ooooooo too many nice things in red.

slight sense of excitement in the tummy..not held one this long before..
hardy hardy har har
This is SO Funny!
Well...
And deep breath and relax.
I could tell this was going to be a close one....straight away in fact.
One pass was enough to feel the closeness of this lil monkey.
Took it really easy....nice and light.
A 7+ on the Gillette scale. Two tiny neck weepers and a necky tingle after two passes.
This is on the limit of aggression for me. Just about coping and a massively close shave..
a really rewarding experience. It's goood to feel when you are shaving, unlike the tech for example which feels like you are hardly shaving.
So looking forward to using less pressure and a no weepers...lets see shall we.
have bought full London Underground uniform. hat the lot.
Now when callers come to the door I make them buy an Oystercard...
Yrs
FARES PLEASE!!!!

RE: 14 jan onwards.Getting the 'Big Fellow' out......

Dear Drizzly

Oh Yes.
Got the big fellow out this morning again.
Then I picked a razor.
HA!
HA!
Get it. Innuendo..
You see, I said big fellow, like it was a razor when in fact...
Oh never mind.

Phew!
That was close.
A little better today. A really tight shave with the Nacet (so sharp..crocodile...half)
Light touch, avoided all repetition of going over a patch without lather. Shortish light strokes.
Great.
Lather...Volderdodge piffed me a sample of Petermans 1904.
Rubbed into the facial area. Then lathered up.
Holy creamy creamy latehr batman. Nice slightly soapy zingy smell too.
Unction to finish. Slighty hot neck so this is as good as Im going to get with this.
Which is good.
It's a lovely piece really. Something I'd get out once in a while when feeling brave.
Mind you it would be worth getting the big fellow out every day. Just to have a look....
Yrs
Slickbodacious.

On my feet.
No on my mouth/chin area.
I will give it another go though.
London underground toilet theme progressing well.
Have sourced way out poster circa 1910 as seen at aldwych
Transfers of underground roundel for shower window.

RE: 14 jan onwards. All Aboard!!!!!

I like the idea of the London Underground themed bathroom. Would be interested to see the finished pics. A while ago I found a good quality scan of a LU map from the 1930s... was interesting to see the stations that were in use back then and which have been built since. We were the first in the world to have the underground and although I have endured the rush hour commute on the tube I still have a weird nostalgia about it.
I think in the 1950s (earlier?) you used to be able to take the underground straight to Southend-on-Sea, for cockney holidays! I grew up there and after nine years away I live there now.
