Sun 16th June

Jayaruh Syn. No67
Tabac soap
ATT SE1 & Windrose handle
Schick Proline [ 7 ]
Tabac A/S Lotion

Ended my AC/SE rotation yesterday, but as I enjoyed the ATT SE1 I decided to use it again as a Sunday morning treat.
With a great lather the Shave was really smooth, and by taking my time to do extra polishing up work this was definetly
the best Shave of this rotation.

All I need is a nice Shower in preparation for a rare Home Cooked Sunday Roast. Wish you all a Happy Fathers Day.

Sunday 16th June

Olive Oil Soap
Arran Lochranza Shaving Soap
Yaqi Metal 24mm Timberwolf Brush
Focus R28 Slim Al Razor with a Kai Blade
Alum and Rinse
Aloe Vera Gel
Grey Flannel EDT

I am re evaluating the Kai Blades. I tried them years ago in DE razors but just didn't get on with them at all. A few years on with considerably more shaves under my belt (figuratively speaking).... I want to see if the high price is justified. They seem ok so far but there is just a little more feedback from the Alum test and unless the longevity is considerably more.....I am inclined towards sticking with the Feathers.

3 passes for a perfect finish which will see me through tonight's shift.

Again a whole day behind. This shave was made last night but once again I was distracted from scribbling something together. On this occasion watching 'Venom' with my wife.

This day brought with it not just a new toy but a shave with the theme 'of fathers and lathers'

44774

Who's the Daddy? - Ikon standard in matt SS
Big Daddy - ATT Colossus
The Daddy of them all - Polsilver Lodz
Daddy needs a new brush - Razorock Plissoft 400
Daddies sauce - Cella crema da barba
Sugar Daddy - Cerutti 1881

This morning started in a most lovely fashion with the two Granddaughters Tippi and Zuzu paying me a visit. Accompanied by their dad of course being only 4 and 2 although I am sure the older one could find her way here on her own and solve the universe while she did so. Bearing gifts, even better. Just what a granddad needed for Father's day today, the DVD 'Venom' (see, blame little people for my belated SOTD's), the new vinyl album by Aurora 'A different kind of human' (don't know her? Then you need to) and a Lego spaceship. Brilliant, aren't children great? The Lego was quickly built by the elder granddaughter who then went on to tell me where Stephen Hawkins had got it wrong. Apparently it is all to do with unicorns and Barbie. All life's big questions answered in a minute.

The shave

Not only did grand kids come bearing presents, so did the postman. Firstly a freshly honed Rolls blade, honed wonderfully by the man himself @Fergiebilly and secondly yet another Ikon standard SB. This time from the BST and the Ikonic @isaiah53 . A very big thank you to both.

The Ikon in this case being the all matt SS finish. I now have the all black B1, a B1 black base with a polished top cap and now an all matt version. The thing which gets me is despite them all being from the same family they all shave differently. The first thing I noticed with the all matt version is that compared to the chromed top there is less blade exposure and secondly the top cap is actually slightly different to the polished. Does it make any difference to their acknowledged aggressive stance? Does it buggery. I would rate this new baby as aggressive and the polished cap as fucking angry.

Used on an ATT Colossus as I do like length and weight. Bit disappointed for a stainless handle it is showing signs of corrosion but nothing the super duper hydro-sonic cleaner at work can't deal with.

Cella. Good God I'd forgot how damn fine this stuff is but I can't say I missed those passing comments, 'Chris, why do you smell like a bloody Christmas cake?'. But what a great croap if ever. Masses of wonderful thick and slick lather whipped up in an effortless manner with the Razorock. This is one of those basic shaving classics in a similar ilk to the R89. Doesn't cost the earth and performs brilliantly. An R89, Cella and a Razorock brush could have anyone returning great shaves with little outlay.

Back to the Ikon. Like I mentioned in expletive language this razor is one aggressive little sod but very usable with its slightly lesser angry slant. One exceptionally smooth performer. Super WTG, super XTG and even more super ATG. Unlike the polished cap this baby is so less intimidating and so much so I managed another ATG just to refine and tidy up those areas which needed a little bit more TLC. Don't get me wrong here, it would quite happily rip your face to shreds if you thought 'Ah this is easy'. These Ikon SB's need ultimate respect.

What a shave with a great razor and all polished and refined to a lovely refreshing level and all to be topped off with a spray of 1881. An odd ball scent to me but it leaves an awesome air. Not for everyone and I can understand why, but suits my skin and person wonderfully.

My granddaughters would argue differently but BBS all the way

I wish all a fantastic Sunday for whatever reason whether it be to enjoy Father's day or just to enjoy the day for what it brings

Oh and as a passing thought and in case I'd forgot

Sunday 16th June

Soap - Intesa Shaving Cream
Brush - Yaqi Fan Tuxedo
Razor - Yaqi DOC
Blade - Silver Star
Post - Witch Hazel
AS - Old Spice

Loaded too much water in the brush whilst building the lather, which lacked a bit of cushion but was slick enough to get me through for 3 comfortable passes. Intesa is a very good cream, seems to go under the radar.

Anyway chaps, have a good Sunday.

Great stuff, Iain. I have some Corrux blades (unwrapped, and still smelling ‘oily'). I am somewhat hesitant to use them; but will await your counsel. S.

P.S. Enjoy the Streamline...arguably the Rolls Royce of the 1912 family...

S - I've used the blades before in 1912's without incident - as long as they don't have any corrosion - you should be fine. They shave as the modern ones do but definitely smoother. I concur with your sentiments about the Streamline - I had used a loaner from another member a couple of years ago but until now not owned one. Perhaps not the model I would recommend as the one to try first to someone new to this style of razor but if you treat it with respect it gives a wonderful shave - the extra thick plating gives them a real presence in the hand for such a small thing and in my opinion are objects of great beauty. Of all the single-edges I own - the Streamline comes closest to the Cobra in the assertiveness/efficiency stakes. I do pay very careful attention when using it though. Cheers - I.

Back in London and after a few weeks using the yaqi I gave the New Forest Tubby a run out. I had forgotten how much of a lather hoarder it is. I had to grab the yaqi and whip up a quick batch for the second pass.
I rate these new synthetics so highly that I could see myself using them exclusively.

Rex Ambassador
Polsilver
Maseto Finest
Declaration Grooming TSM Fougère and matching aftershave

Taking a break from the SE razors today.

First outing of my second Rex Ambassador. I sold my last one a couple of months ago and started missing not having one around a while back.
The first one I bought was the N serial code and apart from the adjustment ring being a little lose for my liking there wasn't any other complaints. Not sure why I sold it TBH.

Anyway onto the latest O variant. The fit and finish has gone up a level. The metal has more of a shine to it and the knurling seems to be cut deeper. The razor seems a little shorter and Chuckie? This might all in my head though.

Onto the shave. Started off on setting 3 but moved down to 2.5 as there was a little too much blade feel. Things felt a lot better/safer and the finished results were great.

Will I keep this one? Who knows?

Enjoy what's left of your Sunday and have a good week.

Cheers
Rob
