SOTD : Saturday 22nd January-Friday 28th January 2022.

26/1/22

Soap - Arko Hydrate Cream
Brush - Yaqi Blonde Boar 24mm
Razor - Yaqi Old Type
Blade - Astra SP (4)
Post - Lea Balm
AS - Superdrug Forest Fresh

4 more bristles lost with the blonde Yaqi boar, the signs aren't encouraging, this brush is a bit underwhelming so far.

Not a bad shave though, the scent of the Arko Hydrate cream seems to be very close to the Superdrug Forest Fresh splash, a nice mild fougere scent for both.

Been away for past two days and didn't post anything for my one year shaving anniversary.

Yes, on 24th of January - it was exactly one year since i started wetshaving. The year went by so quickly! And oh what a journey - exploring so many scents, talking with so many awesome people in this hobby - other wetshavers, artisans, newbies that came after me. I'm definitely having a great time!

Since I was away in London - I've grabbed minimal gear - Gillette tech, yaqi synth, soap sample and dorco titan blade. Nothing huge to celebrate but I was travelling light.

And todays shave was with two days growth - impeccable finish with mongoose and slickness by milksteak base of chaotic neutral. Great shave - yet another one!

Alpha G4 Syn 28mm
Williams Mug soap
Occams Oren 3dot
Kai Captain Titan Mild Pink ( 6 )
Williams Aqua Velva A/S Lotion

Critics of The Oren bang on about the floating blade, I encounter no significant problems while Shaving. I find it very easy to get a mishap free quality Shave every time, and today Two days growth was cleared with ease.

Razor: Tatara Nodachi with mini handle
Blade: Astra SP, 1st use
Brush: Omega #625 silver tip badger
Bowl: Captains Choice Copper Lather Bowl Standard Bowl
Preshave: PAA Cube Unscented Soap
Soap: PAA Astra Planeta Puck
Aftershave: Tabac Original Cologne
Balm: L’Oréal All In 1 Moisturising Cream Balm

I’ve wanted to get the Nodachi for a while and the black version intrigued me, so when this came up for sale encouraged on by the devil on my shoulder, @Boycie83 I snapped it up. It’s a delightful razor and not nearly as aggressive as I thought it might be. The short handle is incredibly short but none the less is solid and gave great manoeuvrability regardless. I will no doubt replace it at some point but for a change is as good as a rest and I really like it!
I don’t think I have a smoother razor than my Masamune and this tradition continues with the Nodachi. I’d love to be able to stretch to their adjustable but it’s out of my price range but I throughly recommend their razors!

The Semogue 830 boar brush again stirred up a veritable snow storm of lather, this time from the Trumper’s Lime cream.

Having kept the Model T at a mild 2.5 setting for the whole shave, I enjoyed a nice, trouble free shave, with none of the scary blade feel it can exhibit at higher settings.

An all round 9.5 out 10 shave!

Stay safe and enjoy your shaves.

Razor: Rockwell Model T
Blade: Shark Super Chrome (3)
Soap: Trumper’s Lime
Brush: Semogue 830 Boar
Pre-shave: Proraso Green
Post-shave: Trumper’s Lime Cologne
Bowl: Captain’s Choice Copper

There appears to be some confusion over what constitutes being a beaver so for this evening my shave comes themed 'Otoboke Capybara'

20220126_194942.jpg

Large rodents - Ever Ready 1912
Hydrochoerus - GEM
Giant Cavy - Steven Jagger 30mm giant Cashmere
No damn dam - Penhaligons Bayolea
'I am not a fucking beaver'

'No, in fact I am a Capybara, the world's largest rodent. I suppose I equate to being a bloody big rat. But I will tell you what, I fucking hate beavers.

No one ever says now there's a cute little Capybara, or I fancy a bit of giant Cavy tonight. And if you ever tried to shave me I'd bite your fucking hands off. I am though renowned for my friendliness which is a lot more than can be said for a lot of beavers. But I do agree a band named Otoboke Capybara doesn't actually roll off the tongue does it?'

So an evening with the 1912. Not an every day shaving weapon of choice with me, but always a pleasure to use. It is a great sense of pride to shave with a razor older than myself and which still looks amazing. Which is more than can be said for me. It also happens to be very photogenic. Which is more than can be said for me.

I still think it looks like an upmarket shovel for a garden gnome but you can't have everything.

In use I find it so easy to find the angle and soon become acquainted with its quirkiness. It does have a scary appearance, but really it's quite fluffy and friendly. A bit like a Capybara.

The GEM? Well there ain't anything else so a wise choice. And the only one.

Team lather sorted in an excellent manner with the Penhaligons being such an easy soap to work up and short work being made of that with the oversized Steven Jagger Cashmere. A beautiful brush if ever.

So three full passes (ATG being slightly intrepid) to a beaver smooth finish. Because I value my hands too much.

And so why not? I shall finish with some of those Otoboke Capybara girls live from what appears to be an Off-licence
