SOTD : Saturday 10rd April to Friday 16th April 2021.

With (only) 18 razors in my collection, it’s fair to say that some of them are not used too regularly. In order to give everyone a chance, I’m going to rotate through them all once, in they order they are stored on my shelf. I am such an egalitarian. :)

I was tempted to do the same with the soaps but one prescribed item per shave is enough. I’ll therefore pick and chose soaps, brushes, blades and everything else as I go.

First in line was my Gillette Super Speed 1940s style from 1953. This is quite a mild razor so of the three blades I have on the go at the moment, I thought I would try it with an Israeli Crystal. I fancied some pineapple, so Iced Pineapple for starters and Creed Aventus for pudding. And an excellent meal it was too.

The Super Speed, well my example at least, is sometimes a little scratchy despite being mild. Nonetheless I achieved a damn fine shave. I always forget, as I'm wafted away on the scent of tropical pineapple, that the Iced Pineapple has menthol in it. Quite a big hit of menthol. Rinsing with cold water reminded me of this fact. As ever, the Semogue was superb.

Razor: Gillette Super Speed 1953 -Y3
Blade: Israeli Crystal (3)
Soap: Stirling Soaps Iced Pineapple
Brush: Semogue 830 Boar
Pre-shave: Proraso White
Post-shave: Creed Aventus
Bowl: Captain’s Choice Copper

Next up will be the Leaf Twig.

A face lather today with the little Culmak and HWF, a nice slick lather with the scent of mainly Patchouli with the Cedarwood coming through towards the end, i do not get any "Barnyard" as has been mentioned on other SOTD's.
I completed 2 multi directional passes with this wonderful little razor for a close, comfortable, BBS finish.
A nice post shave routine finishing with the Signature soaps Danum splash.
Stay safe and enjoy your day all.

Harrigammi? That looks more like the art of throwing twigs down haphazardly. Not sure the Lancashire arts council would be accepting of this art form.

Or is it an abstract offshoot?

Land is wet by the way

Ha! Now that is exactly how I remember the SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium feeling ...

Some years back, when I first came to traditional shaving, I landed on the SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium as my blade of choice. Back then I was inexperienced, had little awareness of blade material and composition, little exposure to many blades and (so) was a multi-pass shaver. I got the smoothness that I was after from three passes and that was comfortable for me with the forgiving blade that was sharp enough to shave, but not sharp enough to do any damage.

First run with the Centwin Super Platinum yesterday, I noted that it was certainly not a sharp blade but it was smooth; not super-smooth but smooth enough. This evening, second run, most definitely NOT sharp but certainly smoother than yesterday. My memory of the SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium was somewhat jaded as I tried it again recently to find it really very sub-standard, but I also tried out their new technology Zorrik and SuperMax Titanium blades which I found to be only just capable of a single-pass shave but boy were they forgiving! Super-forgiving!

... and that's how this evening's shave with the Centwin Super Platinum felt. Super-safe! Absolutely no way I was going to cut myself, but it did give me a good shave in one pass and no hint of residual shadow as I had yesterday. I think I hit the sweet spot with this blade. Now, don't get me wrong as it's not a blade I'd want to keep in, but it is a blade that I would happily use again ... in a certain circumstance.

Like my summary of the new technology Zorrik and SuperMax Titanium blades being ideally suited to multi-pass shavers who want an ultra-comfortable shave, this blade is not so near that staggering forgiveness, but it is safe. Safe. Folks wanting a super-safe blade that is utterly incapable of drawing blood despite silly pressure or wonky angles but want a good enough shave off one pass, better off two or probably super-smooth off three then this is the blade for you.

Safe. Comfortable. Capable (enough).

Thanks to @p.b for the plate recommendation. The ++ was a much better shave. That said, I still prefer the Karve and my other razors. I'm grateful for the chance to try this razor but I won't be adding one to the den. It's packed and ready to head to @Tony'schin

Good evening men

Soap - HWF
Brush - Yaqi Timberwolf
Razor - Yaqi Adjustable 4,3,2
Blade - Gillette 7 O’clock Sharpedge #4
Post - Proraso
Splash - Nivea Deep ComfortD2A07346-66D9-4BFC-B903-DE398DF59AC2.jpeg
For those that don’t know, on mildest setting is no 1 and so it goes 1,2,3,6,5,4 obviously.
So tonight I went for the spud peeler setting of 4.
The first pass led to an incredibly close shave and I could of probably ended it there. I decided to go for another two passes on the milder settings which I probably didn’t need to do.
The Yaqi adjustable still hasn’t let me down yet.
Excellent post shave feeling with the lovely scented Nivea splash with no stinging on application. Happy Bunny.

Either way, Master - it doesn't matter - just had the Tate Modern on the phone - fifty large for the Raven's Nest - I think the phrase they used was - 'Almost Swiftian in its rapier-like subtlety' - and the same money again for the other two parts of the Corvid Triptych - which I have yet to come up with - shouldn't be a problem - bullshit and conceptual art are pretty much synonyms. Oh - they aren't twigs - in fact, shredded paper - which I then twisted to resemble nesting material - do you have any idea how long that took? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::love: - I.

@jimmyc - actually, I think you nailed that one - have you considered a career as an art critic?

Art critic no. sarky bastard maybe. Grew up in Germany in the 70s I know all about 70s bush as it was in the papers and on the telly.
Could not believe when I moved here at 14 yo with friends getting all worked up over page 3.
