Todays Shave Kit Friday 19th March 2021

Shave Score 9.7/10.0

PreShave: Hot Shower
PreShave Cream: Proraso Refreshing
Soap: Signature Soaps - Danum (Patchouli)
Brush: Yaqi 24mm - Purple Haze
Razor: Parker A1R Travel Razor
Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless (2)
Post Shave ASL: Signature Soaps - Danum (Patchouli) ASL
Post Shave Balm: Bartsbalms - Ben Hope (Peppermint Essential Oil)
Post Shave Cologne: Geoffrey Beene - Bowling Green

A new weird combo today, firstly tried out my new Parker A1R Travel Razor, just to make sure it will be good to go when required, very very impressed, I could almost say it was a better razor than my first ever DE razor the Merkur 34C :)

I paired it with a Feather Stainless blade that was on its 2nd outing, it was a very nice shave, and I’m beginning to see why people love these blades as much as they do, super close BBS, not much effort required, zero nicks or issues.

Along with that I tried a new to me soap manufacturer Signature Soaps, the Danum (Patchouli) version which reminds me of smells I remember very fondly from my childhood, I also tried it with the matching ASL thanks to @BrianH who kindly included a sampler, this soap has imedietely gone into my top 5, maybe top 3 out of my 40 odd soaps/cream :)

It lathered up really easily, had amazing residual slickness even after a pass was done, smelled great, I’m gushing but it really is that good.
I picked up the Brittania version too, which smells amazing, I can really smell the Aniseed.

Having a rare day off today, mainly because my boss is a nightmare for not giving holidays (that’s me btw :)

Have a good Friday all :)

Joe.

Brush - Yaqi Butterscotch 22mm Cashmere
Soap - Signature soaps Danny
Razor - Gillette Slim Adjustable H1 - settings 7,6 then 5
Blade - Rapira Super Stainless#1
Post - Lea 3in1 ASB

Very first time using Brian's Signature Soaps - courtesy of the pass around. I've spent last 3 days amongst brick and cement dust so I was looking for a soothing shave, the Danum was the perfect remedy. Super easy to lather, took a load of water and performed fantastically. 3 nice passes, however a tiny bit of tugging on final pass in moustache area. Post shave was cooling and soothing. A really nice shave, very close and I'm looking for another 3 outings for the Rapira.
Stay safe people, have a good weekend and enjoy your shaves.

pre: sanctuary triple cleansing mousse, hot towel to the face, bluebeards revenge preshave oil,
Soap: southern witchcrafts necromantic
Brush: yaqi 24mm purple haze
Razor: Rockwell 6s R4
Blade: tiger #2
Post: cold water, pinaud clubman vanilla

Yet another face lathering shave :)

little bit rushed shave for morning meeting - however still enjoyable ! Soap exploded in beautiful moody lather (that’s how I describe this scent , dark and moody, hitting with red wine vibes), quite thick and slick! Love this soap - definitely need to get some samples from different soaps of theirs ! (Yes I say that whilst having 10 or so soaps that I own and haven’t even tried yet haha)

tiger blade performed well - however on ATG pass it was tugging a bit. Not sure whether it was due to a bit rushed prep or the blade itself. Will leave it on until next shave and see how it goes - my stubble is really coarse so seems like mid sharpness blades do struggle on ATG quite a bit.

nice splash of pinaud clubman vanilla for a finisher to brighten up the moody soap scent.

DFS+ achieved

Soap - Speick Stick
Brush - Yaqi Plissoft 24mm
Razor - Gillette Flat Bottom New OC
Blade - Lancet Advance Platinum (4)
Post - Lea 0%
AS - Superdrug Forest Fresh

My lather with Speick was a little thin for yesterday's shave, which I corrected for today's and used a Yaqi synth and I had enough lather for about 5 passes. I'd used Speick before and been reasonably impressed with it, but using it again I'm not entirely sure why but I'm rating it much higher than I did back then, I'm not sure whether it is down to using a full sized stick opposed to the sample or being able to get the best out of the lather now.

As I had a huge amount of lather I did something I rarely do now, and that's a 3 pass shave (WTG x1, XTG x2) with clean ups and not only was my face incredibly smooth and soft, but also very comfortable.

A superb shave.

Have a good Friday chaps.

My experience of the Speick stick mirrors your own Donnie. Tried it a few years ago, rated it well, but since buying a complete stick I have come to really appreciate how excellent it really is. Cushion, slickness, post shave all absolutely fantastic

I'm finding the lather to perform in the same category as Tabac, but the Speick stick has a more pleasing scent to my nose but the stick is very hard, I like the larger surface area and slightly softer nature of the Tabac stick.

Both are deserved classics.

Proraso Barba Crema
Haslinger Sheep milk soap
Geo Butler 5/8ths extra hollow
Gibbs adjustable razor
Epsilon ‘Mediterranean Blue’ AS

Haven’t used a straight razor for 6 months so decided to break out my great grandfather’s razor which I gave a good stropping first, only a single pass on cheeks and neck producing a good result on cheeks and a few missing hairs in the hollows on my neck, finished off with Gibbs on second pass on upper lip and clean up producing a BBS result followed by a liberal splash of aftershave which felt wonderful! Like any skill it requires practice to master.
