Thursday:

Afternoon, gents.

Prep: Claus Porto's Lime-oil face soap
Razor: EJ DE89 with Bulldog handle
Blade: Derby (6)
Brush: Ecotools Kabuki
Shave cream: RSC
Aftershave: Yellow Ginger
Cologne: Azzaro pour Homme

Well, that was a poor shave! Everything seemed to go fine then, half an hour after finishing up, my face started to feel tight and sore. I had a look and there was lots of redness under the jawline - haven't seen anything like that in a good, long time. I was a bit rushed and distracted, I suppose, because I had dental treatment first thing in the morning. Anyway, an hour later the redness had disappeared, but it'll teach me not to take things for granted.

Using a Derby blade for 6 shaves! That's just crazy.
Personally I wouldn't want to see my Derbys live that long. I've already got several packets I don't want to use.

Prep: hot flannel, face scrub, rinse,Proraso pre cream.
Soap/cream: MWF/TUBS Sandalwood
34C with a new Gillette 7 yellow
Cold rinse
Alum bloc
Witch hazel

A very enjoyable shave, it's been a month since starting with DE shaving and does feel like it is getting better and better.

My shave this evening started with some enthusiasm ...

My pack of Schick injectors turned up from eBay and sitting there are four injectors: a PAL, a Personna, a Schick J1 and a Schick Adjustable.

Lathered up with Fitjar Shea Pleasure and a blade injected into the Personna ...

SCRAPE! Oh, God! Ouch!

I popped another into the PAL and carried on ...

... same thing.

Really? Another new one into the Schick J1.

... same yet again.

I didn't have the heart to try the Schick Dial.

I finished off with my Merkur 23C with a second run Blue Diamond. Just the one pass with the grain, hot rinse, cold rinse, witch hazel/Olbas Oil and some Old Spice to finish which felt like the old days when, like a div, I used to spray EDT onto my face after shaving. Burn! Gah!

It will be some time before I pluck up courage to try the injectors again. I tried different angles and pressures. Maybe I've got a bad batch of Schick razors.

Good God! No fun at all ... face humming and not happy ...

Thoughts? Maybe they're just not for me.

Friday 22nd November

Brush: NF Tubby 2
Cream: T&H No.10
Razor: Schick L Type
Blade: Personna (1)
Post: Witch hazel, Steve's Barbershop Bay Rum, Astral

Fantastic shave. I'm loving this brush. So far I've used a soap and a cream, and it's been great on both occasions. I look forward to using it again, Tabac next! The Schick gave a very quick and comfortable 2 pass shave. Not as close as with a DE or SE razor but still very acceptable. With the cold weather a bit of Astral goes down well.

^^ I love my Tubby 2, fantastic brush with anything you throw at it.

I've used the Aristocrat Junior for the past week and it really is a great little razor, one of my favourites. Just the right amount of bite for me.

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Proraso preshave - sensitive
Soap: Stirling Earl Grey
Brush: Omega boar 10005
Bowl: Woodhead Pedestal
Razor: Merku 37c slant
Blade: Super-Max SS (1)
After: Aqua Velva Sport AS, T&H no.10 ASB

After proving I could repeat the great lather for Stirling's Bay Rum, I had to try and reproduce this with my other Stirlings. So went about it with the Earl Grey and succeeded. Let the puck soak in warm water while I showered, bowl lathered vigorously and hey presto it worked a treat.
It's pity the Earl Grey scent disappeared immediately after lathering but I did get a great shave with BBS finish.

Nearly the weekend, folks.
