Shave for 15 December 2013

Weber Polished, Bulldog
Perma-Sharp Super (3)
Semogue 1438 boar
Vitos Extra Super Coconut
Lucky Tiger Face Tonic

Somewhat uninspiring. No match for last night's shave with the #21. I must admit, I'm weighing up selling parts of my DE collection.

SUNDAY EVENING

Prep: Hot rinse, prep cream massaged into beard
Razor: Feather AC kamisori - teak handle
Blade: Feather Proguard
Brush: Coates Fitzwilliam
Soap: MDC Fougere - scuttle lathered
Post: Witch hazel, GFT sandalwood skin food

Superb shave tonight. One WTG pass, one ATG pass and some minor clearing up and my face is uber-smooth.

If only I could buy these Feather blades at 'ten shave' strength. That's when they seem to really start working for me rather than attacking me (it is, of course, nothing to do with me being cack-handed).

Prep: Village Barber oil
Soap: Stirling Barbershop
Razor: DLC/UFO Goliath XL
Brush: Chubby 2 - 2 band
Post: Village Barber Balm /444

A lovely lovely shave after a weeks growth.

Sunday Evening ...

Something put me in mind to use my recently acquired Ying Ji Li razor. Ying Ji Li who? They're Chinese and amongst all manner of other things, make an exact replica of the Gillette 7 O'Clock Sterling. Exact! It evens shaves the same: mild and smooth, not especially close, but perfectly presentable.

Hot Towel
Olive Oil PSO
Far North Goat Milk Soap
Edwin Jagger Best Badger Brush 21mm
Ying Ji Li 'Sterling'
Sputnik Stainless Teflon [6]
Hot Rinse
Cold Rinse
Alum Wash
Cold Rinse
Blue Stratos Aftershave

Three Pass - WTG, XTG & ATG

Sadly, the Far North Soap is not up to much. I do like the idea of artisan soap, but all too often they're missing something ... this one lack lather. The lather is foamy, thin and all but disappears on the face. I had to make up some fresh lather for the final pass.

The razor performed exactly as expected and coupled with Sputnik, perfect. Actually, what I did for the first pass was unscrew the razor a little until the blade gap opened up just a little without the head becoming sloppy. Thereafter, the XTG and ATG passes were performed with the head fully tightened.

Presentable. No nicks, weepers, irritation, just a good presentable shave. I wonder if this might be one of those razors that takes to a diagonal stroke?

Face Lathering Continued
Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Proraso preshave - sensitive
Soap: NSS Cedarwood and Vetyver
Brush: MÜHLE Kosmo silvertip synthetic
Razor: Weber + Bulldog
Blade: Personna Super (1)
After: Brut AS, Limes Skin Food

With my recent success at face lathering I decided to continue with another hard soap. This NSS soap had given me problems bowl lathering but I've found much more success today face lathering. I think I'm converted now using this method for my hard soaps.

Testing out the Weber Personna combination gave excellent results. Really difficult to find a difference between this and the Rapira SS and Sputnik blades, they all are great performers.

Have a great Monday, chaps.

Too much sparkle?

I'm with you there Paul - I'm not using either the Feather or Cobra as much as I'd like to for that reason. I've been wondering whether a few laps on a high grit hone followed by a strop would tame them but retain the sharpness. I just need to come up with an idea for a holder now.
