Question aimed at Vinny and Canuck

Enjoy your trip.

Went in search of Calvin Klein Obsession Aftershave in Salisbury today. Plenty of EDT so had a good sniff. Liked it. That's the good news. But no aftershave anywhere. I have a feeling it will be the same in other local places so it's online or a trip to London to do a serious bit of research.

Should save on a train ticket Peter.

I think we have a game plan! Make lists of perfumers and make a trip to town - Big Smoke (I was there for the last smog - sheesh!) and visit - with all your lists in my pocket but no plastic in my wallet. Award stars for the really wow! scents and then buy small bottles.

Talking of which - where do I buy 'decants' other than ebay?

Me! On a shopping trip to London! For perfume for myself! Does funny things to a man, does this DE shaving! Or is it reading TSR?

Mainly from here Carl, they do a good range and the service is second to none.

I saw that Cheap Smells price and noticed it was £2 more on Amazon. The latter could have been ordered with a couple of clicks, the former required me to spend a couple of minutes registering and getting my debit card out. Haven't summoned up the energy yet.

Funny you should say that, Richard, because just after lunch, whilst copying and pasting lists, I came across Vinny's post of yesterday which I had overlooked. So I've spent a productive afternoon selecting and ordering eight samples. First in Fragrance don't stock a lot of the scents suggested by the guys so those may well be the targets for the London trip.

I limited myself to samples of perfumes of which I can imagine myself buying a full bottle at a later date.

Nearly came a cropper with Nuit Etoilee, which very much needs an 'Homme' after it!

I reckon there is more bull-dust written about perfumes than about wines, but it was still a lot of fun.

How cool is this, though? Glycerin shaving soap arrived from Scent from Heaven - put it in its new bowl, gave it 30 secs and then 15 more on full power in the microwave and hey presto! it now fits the bottom of the bowl perfectly!

Hi, my name is Gingerpose and I'm addicted to fragrance :icon_razz:

That's another four samples ordered from First in Fragrance.

Bois 1920 - Vetiver Ambrato
Histoires de Parfums - 1740 - Marquis de Sade
Annick Goutal - Mandragore
Lalique - Encre Noir Pour Homme
Van Cleef & Arpels - Collection Extraordinaire - Precious Oud

How deep is this rabbit hole anyway?

Not as deep as VC&A perfumes, for sure!

But here's a question that has been perplexing me. What does one do with the wrapping that perfume comes in? Chuck it or keep the bottle in it and store where ever?

If you want to trade, I see a need to keep it. I've been chucking it to reduce storage volume required. Do scents need to be kept in the dark? cool?

Some Lalique Encre Noire just arrived and the packaging was huge compared to the already large section bottle - which is black anyway so this case was easy.

In a cupboard, in the box and away from direct sunlight and temperature variations. But then i am slightly anal when it comes to storing :icon_rolleyes:

So sometimes it is best to bulk buy scents! I bought a 200ml bottle of No.88 at the best price I could find - under £100 - but seems the courier has lost it. So the store built to withstand is sending me two 100ml bottles - costing way more than I paid but not to me. Kudos to Mandon!

The First for Fragrance samples arrived today and I've had a pleasant time sniffing. Not tried them all yet but of those I have one stands out a long way - Acqua di Parma - Colonia Intensa - Oud.

This begets the question: which is the best Oud at max £150 for 100ml EdT?

I'm a bit pissed on the heady scents!

First time in an Amsterdam permitted bar, I couldn't understand why I felt as I did on a single glass of beer! If this is passive smoking, bring it on!

Anyway - best Oud?

Well wasn't that a naive question!!!? I've just spent a couple of hours researching oud and oud perfumes - what a fascinating subject! and how expensive the perfumes are!

I've finished up ordering two perfume samples and two little pots of perfume oil from an Arabian dealer as a less expensive way of confirming my liking of oud before shelling out on perfumery products. And all will be well, insh'Allah. Peace be upon you.

There's a place in London (Oxford St, maybe?) that specialises in Oud.

I have very little experience of 'Ouds' but someone over at Basenotes sent me a sample of Tom Ford Oud Wood which was a fairly rich, resinous, herbal scent.

YSL's M7 is supposed to be a fairly good scent in this family.

By gum, Vinny! The oud place on Oxford Street is out of my league! Here it is.

I spent half the afternoon resisting M7 - and now my resolve has crumbled!

Couldn't find it on Quidco - my favourite cash-back site.

M7's an interesting one. I ultimately found it too challenging at the time. I appreciated it but, at the same time, I had a scent association to my grandpa's mothballed wardrobe that I hid in once as a kid. I haven't really explored oudh since.
