A huge thank you to @culcreuch for lending me the Focus R48 Dynamic - loaded with a fresh Feather blade.

I spent a good bit of time with my prep this evening to make sure everything was as good as it could be.

Deciding to go with 3 passes was maybe not the best idea though!

My WTG and XTG passes went really well, other than that same bloody weeper on my chin. I stretched it differently today and the blade glided over no problems but the little scar came off and a nice flow of blood followed. I'm sure that put me in a sulk.

Then stupidly, I decided to go for a final ATG pass. Why you may ask? I've no feckin idea! I was standing wide eyed after my 2nd pass thinking how close the shave was. I should've just went for some minor pickups but no.....numb nut went for a full 3rd pass.

All seemed rosy until I slaughtered the area between my lower lip and chin (where the weeper was flowing freely). I've never had blood like it! Rinse after rinse with cold water told me my face was as smooth as it's ever been, but the medic was called in with my trusty styptic pencil arriving under police escort. A good few applications and rinses were needed with the 1st application bringing a tear to a glass eye.

Eventually the flow of blood stemmed and I was able to continue with my post routine. A good splash of Floid had me giggling like a child at just how my face was burning. I was thinking about throwing some boiling water on just to cool down a bit!

See those wee testers of Barts Balms that come in the tin....I honestly threw the entire contents of one bottle on! Only now....about 20 minutes later, has the blood stopped entirely.

Okay, the good bits - what a finish! This must be how a dolphin feels after a shave with a straight!

The bad bits - time is needed with this razor. I thought just a tad of pressure was needed to let the pivoting head do its bit, but that little bit would appear to have been too much. Could the Feather blade be too harsh for me (I can't use them in a DE razor)? Maybe, but I don't want to blame my tools on my poor performance. A slightly higher angle is needed for this razor and at times I know I was too low, with the blade dragging as opposed to gliding, especially on that ATG pass (did someone ask why I did it? [emoji2371]).

However, all is not lost. This razor has given a fantastically smooth finish, I just need to learn how to adjust my technique to get the same finish without the blood and burn.

I like the appearance of the razor, and its general feel in my hand in good. Is it as good as the OneBlade? Well the finish is as good if not better. Though unlike the OB, time would appear to be needed to learn this razor's sweet spot.

Think I'll give my skin a rest for a day or two! [emoji91]

Have a great night and weekend folks. [emoji1303]

Oh brave Sir, I agree that the R41 is a wonderful and efficient razor, I know because I own one. However, as good a she is and keen as you are it is designed to mow em down. If but a days growth is what you want to give her she just might lull you into complacency...it won't end well. The R41 was my second razor and I spent many hours perfecting the technique I have with it. If it is to be your daily driver all kidding aside, pick a mild blade that is comfortable to use daily ala Personna Lab Blue or whatever super smooth blade you enjoy.
Is that advice specific to the R41? I ask as I have a FaTip Piccolo and iKon SBS still to test and I'm wondering whether they're better suited to heavier growth days or as daily drivers (my daily is 48hr - I'm not particularly hairy).

Sorry to hear about the blood loss....but at least you have a little bit of a challenge! I usually do 2 passes with a touch up. I find the handle needs to be closer to the face in use and the pivot comes into play at the end of a stroke or when you move eg from jawline to neck. I also find that after the main shave.....there is less to touch up. Problems may have been the angle and on this occasion .....'ABridge/Pass too Far'

I definitely agree with a bridge too far! [emoji602]

And for this evening my shaving theme was 'Extro! Extro! Extro!'

43366

This one is a bit belated as I started scribbling away last night and then fell asleep. Thank God TSR saves posts which are started and left unfinished.

Extra nice razor - Ikon B1 SB
Extra sharp blade - Polsilver Lodz
Extra good brush- Razorock Plissoft 24mm synthetic
Extra Extro soft soap - Extro Arancia soft soap
Extra orange scented EDT - Extro Arancia EDT

Gone are the days when there would be a newspaper seller on every corner peddling the daily local rag with headlines several days old. In the case of Liverpool one could swear the job description included 'must have incomprehensible spoken word'. 'Echo!' came over sounding like a pig being strangled. Mind you one knew what was being sold as their tabhard had it splattered across the front. Still, God bless them and I do miss their presence on the streets. They were a part of the city.

Now folk want to hear the news before it has happened and less of the strangled pigs.

After my recent foray and return to using a cartridge razor this shave went a long way as why I disappeared down this 'real razor' road. I wasn't disappointed using the Skinguard but it did fail the 12 hour 'is your face feeling a little rough?' test. I reported the cartridge seemed to create more of a 5 O'Clock shadow than it removed, this shave gave the impression the sun was high overhead and not a shadow to show. Unfortunately it was pissing it down and the sun had long got his hat on and sodded off.

It was also a first time out for the recent BST purchase of a jar of Extro Arancia soft soap and matching EDT. I really do hate the BST section and the sinful temptations it brings with it. And likewise my bank account and in turn Mrs Satanfriendly. As it turned out this proved that the devil really is a happy sinner.

First impressions last or so they say and this soft soap was to about to make a very lasting impression. Removing the lid one is met with a sensational waft of orange scent which lingers in a similar manner to those folk who for some reason or another like to peel oranges in a steam sauna. Farting does the same but hasn't the same pleasant effect.

Picked up with a dry brush the soft texture of the soap allowed a good working quantity to embed itself in the synthetic fibres of the Razorock Plissoft. Add the usual water and what a lather. Like other vegetable based soaps I have used the lather has a certain 'stiff' quality about it and something which makes a quality statement. Easy to apply it gives a wonderful working surface on which to pass sharpened steel and the razor just glides across ones face with wonderful confidence and ease. Everything about it is just brilliant. And the scent? Still there after a cold rinse. Still smelling like a bottle of Robinson's orange squash.

I really have struck it lucky with creams and soaps lately and this one is vying for the leader of the pack. It is up there with donkeys milk and OSP and their intriguing, bizarre fragrances. A superb product which just oozes quality throughout. I would happily buy any other of their soft soaps and I am sure over time my wife will hate me even more. Being vegetable based it will suit many vegan folk and you could always eat the stuff if one felt hungry.

The EDT just goes to add to the whole sensation and for an EDT it outlasts many more expensive perfumes I have used. Simple and gorgeous. Where I recently described Alvarez Gomez as a classic white shirt scent, the Arancia could happily partner anything on your back. White shirt, blue shirt and even those quite distasteful floral items sold in shops as being summer wear. I wouldn't be seen wearing one in a coal mine.

Looking back the Skinguard was a nice razor for what it cost, but really there is no comparison with the end result. This left me feeling high and gleaming and with a face as smooth as Bisto gravy. Minus the meaty scent.

And here I am nearly 24 hours later and I can honestly say I still feel as though I could happily walk out the door ready for a night out. By 3 in the morning I really wouldn't care less.

Have a great long weekend chaps and chapesses and may your shaves be equally as satisfying

Did I mention the Ikon just has to be my favourite choice razor? Well just in case I didn't, it most certainly is.

Nice one

6/5/19

Brush - Yaqi Red Barbershop Handle Tuxedo 24mm
Soap - Ingram Menthol Cream
Razor - MingShi Futur Clone
Blade - GWS India
Post - Witch Hazel/Nivea Cooling Balm
AS - Benjamin's Bay Rum Mentholated

The theme off my shave today was to use things I generally overlook and after today's shave I know why I avoid using the Futur Clone and this particular Yaqi brush. The latter is the glue bump was set far too high, the Futur Clone is just too large for shaving under the nose.

The blade and cream were good though!
