Todays Shave Kit Saturday 20th Feb 2021

Shave Score 9.6/10.0

PreShave: Hot Shower / NIVEA MEN DEEP Anti-Blackhead Scrub
PreShave Cream: Proraso Refreshing
Soap: Vecchia Torino Shaving Soap by Tcheon Fung Sing
Brush: Clear Confidence Co Synthetic Shaving Brush - Vegan-Friendly
Razor: Merkur Progress 500 (2.5, 2.0, 2.0)
Blade: Astra Platinum (1)
Post Shave: OSP - Sandalwood After Shave
Post Shave Balm: Proraso Aftershave Balm White

A nice new Astra Platinum in today, no errors, no nicks, and no razor burn, lovely, starting to think 3 might be my magic shave number with most blades not 4 :)

First shave with the Vecchia Torino today, discovered it doesn’t need much water at all, lovely lather, subtle scent, nice residual slickness.

My usual Saturday setup; it was a nice slow and relaxing way to start the morning. Have a good weekend, folks.

Prep: Shower, Palmolive Olive Oil Soap
Soap: Arko
Brush: Shaving Factory Bristle xs
Razor: Shaving Factory SF289
Blade: Derby Extra (1)
Post: Superdrug Sierran Breeze ASL, Bulldog Balm

So there we have it - two months to the day after joining this forum. Two months of generous PIFs, recommendations and downright enabling have led to the moment where the SF289 no longer cuts the mustard. The Arko and the little bristle brush will remain, but it's time for this razor to be removed from rotation. It's only by upgrading my shaves - mainly due to advice received on here - that I now see the gulf between what is a decent starter kit, and what is also available out there. Next step will be to give the 1912 a run out some time soon, but I've no intention of heading off down the Straight path.

Yet....... ;)

It has been argued in this hallowed room before; but it is no wonder that some expensive steel razors are based on these fellows. ‘Nuff said...
