Greetings

Saturday 6th April 2013
Prep: Shower
Razor: 'New' Head, Pearl Handle
Blade: Astra (Green packet)
Brush: Semogue Owners Club Boar
Soap: Speick stick grated into a container
Aftershave: RSC Balm

Another DE shave for the purpose of being able to assess the difference in shave between the Pearl open comb head I tried and reviewed yesterday and the Gillette (7 o'clock in this case) 'New' head.

The result is as I thought yesterday, the Pearl is very slightly more aggressive but not by much, the difference in the shaves is nothing at all that I can detect. The Pearl handle works wonderfully on the 'New' head and IMHO is worth what I payed for the whole Pearl razor.

Regards
Dick.

Up, showered and shaved and ready to enjoy the sunny day (until the sun goes in!)

Palmolive stick
St James Founders Reserve boar brush
Fatboy gold on 9, 7, 5 with vintage Scottish Permasharp
Thierry Mugler A* Skin cream

Holiday shave so kit has been carefully selected but is more limited (or disciplined, depending on your outlook). Great result. The brush hadn't been used before and had that animal stink. It was not what I was expecting; it was firm and prickly but did a good job.

Great shave. Have a nice day!

FRIDAY EVENING SHAVE

Razor: Bakelite Slant
Blade: Rapira (1)
Brush: Wee Scott
Soap: Irisch Moos stick
Post shave: Witch hazel and WS balm
EDT: Penhaligons English Fern

When I put the blade in this razor, tightened it up, and looked at the blade exposure I knew it was going to be aggressive and it was!

Luckily it wasn't R41 aggressive but it was probably 70% R41. It's odd that something so light is so aggressive.

To shave with it demands a feather light touch, though it gives a very nice shave in the end. I think maybe not tightening up the handle so much may make it a tad milder.

Saturday:

Ingram's cream
Semogue SOC Boar
Long Comb New/JEC handle
Gillette 7 o'clock SharpEdge
Professor Blighty's Isen Vann AS
Nivea Anti irritation ASB

Nice shave, imbibed a bit too much ale yesterday so the menthol was a good pick me up this morning.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

Savile Row badger
1958 Executive/Feather
RL Safari SS
Boots AS Balm
RL 'Safari' EdT (vintage juice)

Heh, my recent typing in another post about the Fatboy/Feather combo caused me to take that blade outta my Webly and switch it into the Exec, which is basically a glorified Fatboy. Dialed it down one number than usual and the perfect shave occurred like it always does. Nice being able to tame that sharp of a blade.

BBS results,

Martin

Notes: A sharp-feeling shave, but I managed not to irritate my skin too much, judging by the lack of sting from the alum. My usual 2 pass + touch up.
I had finished the razor on a Charnley Forest and it worked well.
