SOTD 5th to 11th November 2011

Friday

Edwin Jagger DE89
Shark Super Chrome Blade
New Forest 2201 Brush
Trumper's Coconut Shaving Soap
Clinique Post Shave Soother

I think that the DE89 and the Feather AC SS are going to be neck-and-neck in the "Purchase Of The Year" awards.

Merkur 38R - Polsilver - Gillette Aluminium-handled Tech
Vitos almond soap
TOBS Shaving Shop gel

I seem to be getting the hang of the soap lathering now. I warm my boar brush in hot water first. I have a glass ramekin (which once had Gu lime cheesecake in it) which I add a slither of soap to and float in hot water for a few minutes. I take the ramekin and brush out of the water and swirl the brush around vigorously in circles for about twenty seconds. I get a decent lather (although I keep thinking a badger would produce a better lather more easily, since I have never tried badger) and off I go.

I think this Polsilver is on its fifth shave. Might even be sixth. It's not dragging yet but doesn't glide quite as smoothly. Still mows down the stubble with the Merkur and then, to finish, I used the Tech for the tidying up.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage Ever Ready badger
1958 Executive/Gillette Spoiler (1981)
Surrey SS (pre VDH reformulation)
Caron 'Yatagan' AS (1970s version)

Third very good shave with this razor/blade combo. I'd recommend trying to find these blades....quite pleasant for 30 years old.

Got the small brush outta the arsenal this morning....surprising how well it actually performs. Heh, it doesn't hurt that it's also my favorite butterscotch handle brush.

BBS results,

Martin

Friday:

Merkur Slant 37c
Perma-sharp super
Neep box wood silvertip
Coate's Lime cream

Lovely shave this morning. As it's an old tub, the Coate's cream has dried out a bit so I loaded the brush like it was a soap - a few swirls and the Neep was lost in a veritable lather explosion that could have supplied 5 passes. But I only needed 2. Tremendous :icon_biggrin:

Between trial lathers of my new Penhaligons soap it's actually been an 1805 kind of week. Why not continue.

Friday:

Shower with 1805 bath soap
T+H 1805 cream
Edwin Jagger black badger
Merkur 34C HD
Gillette 7 o'clock green (3) - (It's rare that any of my blades get a third go).
Alum
T+H 1805 cologne

Nice smooth shave today, fragrant as always.
Something different tomorrow, I feel a Penhaligons day coming on.

Friday 11/11 (11)
(What else could I have shaved with today.)
Preshave: hot shower
Razor: Gillette '04
Property U.S. Army
J 1790
Blade: Wilkinson Sword
Brush: NN Horse
Soap: Monsovon
Aftershave: Masters Bay Rum
Wonder what stories this razor could tell. Wonder where it was, and who had it. Whoever, thank you.
(still gives a great shave in 2 passes!)

Re: RE: SOTD 5th to 11th November 2011

This morning:

Bulldog face wash
Feather Artist Club RG, ProGuard blade (5)
Trumper's Rose cream sample
Neep custom yew badger
Bulldog ASB
Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet cologne

S,W on face, S,N,S on neck, extremely comfortable. I have really noticed a difference in the irritation shirt collars used to give me at the base of the neck - just not getting any significant amount with the straight.

Fighting the temptation to buy the wood versions of the RG - so pretty. I haven't used a DE since I first used the RG. I don't know if I will again, even. Probably at some time, I suppose.

Friday

Thomas Turner "Lancet Edge", Simpson 57, Arlington Cream, Alum, Pashana Original AS
20aopvp.jpg

Great shave. The more I use this one the better it gets, I'm finding the fact its larger at the toe than heal works really well for me. My 1st use of Pashana too and I think its going to be one of my regulars.
