SOTD 27th October - 2nd November

New things to try tonight :)

Prep: Nivea Face Wash
Razor: Weber Bulldog DLC
Blade: Rapira Swedish Steel #1
Brush: Neep #1283 Stone Extra Silvertip
Soap: Tabac Stick
After: Proraso Post Cream
AfterAfter: Witch Hazel Gel

Thoughts on the things i've not used before:-

- The Rapira blade seems very nice for shave #1, sharp and smooth, zero irritation.
- Tabac Stick, great slick lather, unsure of the smell, not too bad, just a bit strange at the moment. i'll be using this again
- Neep brush - this is awesome, lather monster, great weight to it, looks great, very soft with excellent back bone.

Overall, very nice shave, although a spot on my neck didnt like the swedish steel very much and polluted my 2nd pass lather, styptic pencil fixed it though.

I haven't tried my Schick Plus Platinums in this razor; will give that a go when I get it back.
Don't honestly know how long the short and long handle Progresses are; anyone any idea?

The short one handle length is about 75 - 80 cm. I measured mine the other day before selling it.

Not sure about the long one though.

Started using a Gillette Blue blade today, a nice all round blade.

Had a very nice shave this morning.
Razor: Herbert Robinson&co
Soap: D'men

The razor is a real surprise. Honed nicely second day in a row that I used her. Nice clean shave.

Cream: TOBS Jermyn st
Brush: Turkish No6 Borsey
Razor: Weber DLC with JEC handle
Blade: Bolzano (1)
Post: Alum & Blightys Punchinello

BBS today for the first time in a few days but with a couple of wee nicks. Hadn't shaved yesterday as I had a bit if irritation the day before.
First shave with the Borsey and it lathered up well but still has that funky smell so still needs a bit of breaking in.

Sunday Morning

2 days growth today as no shave yesterday.

Back to the pass around Muhle R41 to see if I could tame it some more.

Prep: Hot Shower
Cream: TOBS Jermyn Street
Brush: Neep 26mm Extra Silvertip in Kingfisher Burl
Razor: Muhle R41
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock SharpEdge (2)
A/S: TOBS Jermyn Street

A nice relaxed 3 pass shave this morning, I think I have found the right angle to use this razor, about 45 degrees from my skin seems to work very well for me.

One small tiny weeper, but nothing requiring the Alum block. A truly close shave, I've used the term BBS before but this mornings shave redefines it. My face feels absolutely wonderful. I think I may have to add an R41 to the XMAS list.

Greetings

Sunday 28th October 2012
Prep: Shower
Razor: Valet Autostrop
Blade: Feather SE
Brush: Omega 10810 Boar
Soap: Tabac
Aftershave: Dove Sensitive Balm

Another very close shave but the Feather SE blade felt 'draggy/tuggy' and although this sounds extreme it has, after just two shaves expired!

My beard is only medium, I really think that somebody with a very heavy beard would notice the blade turn from as smooth as silk to 'tuggy' in a single shave. I find that a real shame because these blades are not only relatively expensive but they are the only modern blade that will fit in all but the earliest model of Valet razors.

I have attempted to strop a NOS original Valet blade with no success which continues my cumulative success rate at stropping SE blades to remain at 0%.

Regards
Dick.

Sunday 28th October

Hot Shower and Facial Scrub
Proraso Sensitive Pre/Post shave cream
Revisor 4/8 razor
New Forest 2222 HMB
Nannys Forest of Norway Soap
Myrsol Agua Balsamica
Organic Shea Butter
Yardley Cedar and Wood EDT
Morgans Classic Pomade

Missed a shave yesterday. Many thanks to Jamie who restored my little Revisor. I picked it up yesterday, and was lucky enough to see Jamie's collection of razor Porn! Todays shave was almost BBS in 2 passes....but I
carried on with a third for a really smooth and close shave.

Hot Towel Pre
E Shave White Tea Shave Cream
Simpsons Duke Best
Merkur 33c
Lord Super Chrome
Witch Hazel Gel.

Very nice shave this morning. The E Shave is one of the best I have used.

Sunday:

Proraso Sandalwood cream
Omega Silvertip
#15 Aristocrat
Gillette 7 o'clock SharpEdge (3)
T&H Trafalgar AS

Unusually for me I bowl lathered the cream this morning. I'm usually exclusively a face latherer, but a change is as good as a rest. Got a very nice lather, no better than when I face lather, but good anyway. Very nice Sunday shave, BBS results. Off to the parents for lunch soon...nice!

Prep - Hot Towel, Palmolive S/S
Razor - Muhle '11 R41
Blade - Astra S/P
Brush - GOSH Heritage
Soap - P-160
Cold Rinse/ Witch Hazel/ Musgo Real

BBS, nuff said.... :)

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

vintage butterscotch Made Rite badger
LH Progress/Schick Plus Platinum (NOS)
Irisch Moos SS
Lucky Tiger AS and Face Tonic
Irisch Moos EdT (thanks to whoever sent that out)

Third and final time using this razor/blade combo. Very good shaves, but I think the Iridium was a little better.

So six times using the Progress. Interesting razor that has it's pros and cons. I can see how this could work for lots of people. Very glad to have got that monkey off my back.

BBS results,

Martin
