Shave Sticks

I'm almost exclusively shave sticks. Arko, Tabac, Muhle. If 3P and Vitos weren't so soft, I'd make them into shave sticks too. When I head off camping, I take a home-made stick: a lipstick container stuffed full of Arko.

It just seems like a more efficient way to make a lather. No bowl to deal with.

I haven't actually got any yet, so definitely not saving them for travel. I just wondered whether people like them for other reasons. The "make your own" route is handy too I guess, but should I do any travelling, I'll use that as an excuse for new soap!

I always thought sticks were intended for travel purposes. Obviously they're ideal for that, but am I missing something?

Shave sticks have been around for a long time, and can be used however you like.

Some people like to grate theirs down into a tub so they can brush load, others like myself like to keep them in stick form as I find it's the easiest way to load a soap with consistency.

For travel, I'd recommend the La Toja stick as it comes with a handy container. If you are ordering them, order two, and take the soap out of the other one so you can put in a small brush, eg Omega Mixed Midget!

Wow.

I demand you show us pictures of these!

I think the only sticks available on the high street nowadays are Boots Freshwood in the larger outlets, Taylor's in some places like tobacconists and Arko in Turkish shops, ..oh ye and that strange Nivea stick.

Had my first use of a Speick stick yesterday and must admit I was blown away for the price of them. First off to my nose the scent is much nicer than Arko, Tabac or MWF which are the kind of soaps I was comparing it to in my head.

Applied a bit directly to my face and started to lather using a synthetic brush. After a couple of minutes lathering and adding water I had one of the most dense lathers I can remember, I was surprised how much water this soap can take. It felt fantastic and to be honest as good as my B&M soaps which are mainly what I use these days.

Performance was good as well, maybe not quite as slick as B&M but my face felt great after I'd finished. This is by far the best experience I've had with one of the "cheaper" soaps and unlike the others this one will stay in my rotation.
