New YaQi 50mm

The first shave yesterday went pretty well and I still feel well-shaved. A tiny nick on my right jaw (which disappeared before the application of AS) and that's it. The attack angle and overall geometry is something to get used to. However, I like this concept and can definitely see a real Vector in my future (once I find one used for a good price).

You have to keep checking as they release a couple at a time. It took two weeks of checking before I could order mine. When you see it, don't wait get it right away. The first time. I waited to get one thinking I would later that day and they were gone.

Another shave with Yaqi today. It was really good. I don't like the F&F quality of this underdog but I def'ly like how it moans the whiskers.

Interesting though: the Proline blade has an even exposure only on a certain side. If you flip it - you'd get a slant
There's also a tiny overhang of the blade's 'ears' on both sides of the base plate.
Which is not surprising at all, given the rather low tolerances one might achieve with these amounts of mindless chroming.

I received this razor this week, mine has a defective head, the blade doesn't protrude the same amount on each side, it's perfectly straight when seated in the baseplate as shown below.

But the blade sits on a slant in the top cap, not sure if the design is intentional or not, I seen a few reviews on AliExpress people with the same problem.

Any how I still shaved with it & it shaves great, even with the defect I had one of the best shaves I had in a long time couldn't detect any difference even with the skew, but still i expected better at least a even blade alignment I contacted Yaqi about a replacement head or a refund.

I still prefer my RR Hawk V3A it's head is actually smaller well looks it if you don't include the squared off bit at the back, which I actually like because it doesn't get in the way also it adds weight behind the razor head, helps not apply pressure, the baseplate curves unlike the flat Yaqi plate

The Aluminium Hawk V2 is a great shaver but the head is a little cumbersome & big, the Hawk V3 is perfect it's nimble, solid build with a little heft, perfect size, the Yaqi has a nice slim profile & it's nimble too, but shame about the blade alignment issue.

I would not let that thing anywhere near my face Christ I'm clumsy enough with a fully functioning, properly aligned razor

That is a pretty bad alignment issue there. I'd put it down to poor QC and would certain put me off any potential purchase.

Yaqi seem to have a record for poor QC and often putting out razors that aren't fully tested and need a design revision (eg Adjustable on v2, Katana on v3), even this one is already on v2. I'd be really wary to buy any of their razors when they are first released to the market.

In the Yaqi FB user group I remember reading a post by the guy from Maggards (I presume one of their largest OEM consumers) who had one of the first Katanas and he was really unimpressed with the QC and design of the first release.

To their credit though, Yaqi do send out replacements if you raise objections with their QC, they have done so for the defective brushes I have been sent in the past.

I still can't get over the numbering system of the adjustable - 1,2,3,6,5,4 - awesome
