New life for an old brush.

Heads up.

I bought three of these just for the knots.

I knew they weren't the good ones (old, vintage) because they had a UPC, so I wouldn't feel bad about tearing them apart. Probably 1980's stuff.

This is an old one.

Notice how the dyed boar are dyed all the way through.

These newer ones are dyed around the outside only.

I needed a 20mm knot so I knocked down the outside of the base on a bench grinder.

Needs a little cleanup, but it's good!

These things also have a big glue bump, very unlike the old ones, but that's ok, just gives them even more backbone. :)

I have thought about if I had to modify my current bush it would be to have the whole setup 1 cm shorter as the type of knot the brush has is shorter where the extra length other brands use is not needed by this company as the length is the only flaw but almost all of the travel shaving brushes are the same length and diameter to have a bigger brush size/taller bristle length with one or two exceptions on one of the two Muhle models and a Merkur where the diameter of the handle is bigger due to having a huge size knot.
