Jeltz, I can see your point.....but hey, this isn't B & B.....a little anarchy is allowed, as long as it's all in the best possible taste. ;)

Another one for FlatFish, who hates classical music....call me a lunatic, but I love these guys!

He's practically my neighbour, OK well not quite but he lives in a village near me and I've met him a couple of times. A thoroughly nice bloke or at least that's how he comes across.

I saw him and his band a couple of years ago. They were really good, and I still listen frequently to the CD I bought that night.

This thread has legs, I am not sure what we are talking about now but entering the "General Talk" section is like going down the rabit hole in Alice in wonderland.

The fact that we are here discussing engine sounds and talking in great depths about soaps and music all in the same thread sort of makes lunacy (or non conventional thinking to be PC) an entrance qualification.

I once lived in a semi next door to a steam enthusiast. It was at times like living in a caravan parked on Crew station platform! He had a collection of steam sound recordings. And obviously enjoyed playing them.

I'm off now to put the cat to bed and finish up that crochet whilst enjoying a nice cup of Horlicks!!

To my mind that sounds like one long euphemism!

I can't think what you mean Pig Cat!

Fido, you have rightly brought this thread somewhat to heel. So let me assist in that process, as I may have been in part responsible for leading it astray.

I wasn't even going to look, but when I did I have to say that I was captivated. The noises that engine make are very special.

Makes me want to out and start up my Petter PAZ1 Diesel stationary engine. No reason to it,really-just to hear it.

I think my dad managed Acker Bilk for a short time in the 60's. He certainly booked him to play at the Corn Exchange in Bristol more than once.

Back to two-strokes (yes, PigCat two strokes. Funny eh?) On Monday I travelled along Watling Street from Tamworth to Nuneaton and then down the Fosse Way through the Cotswolds (less pretty and more wealthy than I remembered as a child), on to the A40 at Burford, thence to my parents in Oxford. Then yesterday, Oxford to Cheltenham, up to Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in the Marsh, and north-east back to Birmingham. I could have just gone down the motorway but a 1964 Vespa going pop-pop-pop through the highways and byways appeals to the old motorist in me. I also stopped at a lot of villages and places of interest on the way. I've only had the bike a few months and had been looking forward to this jaunt for weeks; apart from the rather vulgar wealth of the Cotswolds it didn't disappoint. And in over 250 miles the scooter never missed a beat.

N.b. that fishing boat: the total loss oil system on a 2-t engine (ie. the way it burns a self-lubricating petrol/oil mix - yes, PIgCat self-lubricating like a lady.) is shockingly bad for the marine environment as the exhaust gases are very "greasy" and dirty.

Still, a lovely sound. Bet it get through a lot of sparkplugs though.

There shouldn't be any spark plugs. Its a hot bulb engine which is a sort of forerunner of the diesel. Petrol requires spark plugs, normal diesel needs compression in the cylinder to which diesel is added and which then goes bang. Hot bulbs have a bulb attached to a cylinder which is blow torched for about 5-30 mins. Fuel (diesel, parafin, waste oil etc) when squirted onto the hot surface of the bulb goes bang. Once the engine gets going and creates its own heat then blowtorch can be turned off.
I'm really sad aren't I. :ugeek:
