Heavy razors are not necessarily the best.

In another thread here some were saying that heavy razors are great and light razors are no good.
I don't see it that way at all.
The Concord under discussion is actually heavier than a Gillette aluminium handled Tech which millions of men used. It is heavier than the Lord L6 which is an excellent and highly rated razor. And it is a lot heavier than the Merkur Bakelite, which is a brilliant razor.

It is a matter of technique that you control the pressure the razor puts on your face. If you are any good you can have exactly the right pressure regardless of the weight of the razor. Using a heavy razor as a substitute for technique rules out using lots of really good razors.

I prefer a light razor.

Until PIF'd the aluminium handled tech was my regular razor. Never had a problem and always delivered a great shave.

I prefer a heavy razor but each to their own. I've tried quite a few and generally know what works for me. Horses for courses.

I prefer a heavy razor , but have had great shaves from light - For me its just a personal thing.

Brucie Boy, you don't have to provide links to backup what you are saying mate, you have put your view on your post, if you believe what you are saying, surely that's enough ?

Nobody is trying to doubt the magnificence of the Lord L6, just that we all have our own preferences in regard to what's good for us,
it's just people with different views to discuss, ideal for a Shaving Forum i would have thought.

I have used many different Razors, light and heavy, had good Shaves with most of them, i just find that a heavy Razor is better for me...

I prefer a razor with a bit of weight to it, all other things being equal, but I don't think it has any effect on the quality of shave I get - just a personal preference. Balance and handle length probably have more bearing on that.

I cant see how people were saying light razors were rubbish all i can see is people making comments on the concord and adding information that was not mentioned to give people more detail so they could make up their own mind like most adults. My opinion is thier is a lot more to how a razor shaves than just weight it comes down to head shape blade exsposure and not being a pile of cheap s***

I think I have probably given a fair trial to about twenty razors. I'm now down to a Jagger Chatsworth, Merkur 38C, Gillette Superspeed, Gillette Single Ring and a Mach 3. All are completely different in size and weight. All deliver a great shave. So did the others. It so happens that I mostly use and prefer my heavier razors but that says more about me than the relative merits of other razors.

Each to his own. And it's fun finding out what our preferences are.

And each of my three straight razors are different. I guess I like variety and have broad tastes.

You do need to be more skilled when using a drinks can to shave with so why on earth would you encourage a new convert to purchase a quality item that is easier to use and last a life time?

The second one is started by you - so that's two in total including you (unless you want to count schizophrenics as two?)

In the interests of transparency: If you're going to produce examples, it's rarely productive to be rumbled as one (or more) of said examples.

I'm shocked moderator Sir, doesn't that seem like one is shilling ones own views?

Surely only punishable by having to read your own blog?
