Gut 2.2 Palmolive

Keep an eye on this thread - someone is going to do a comparison:

OK, note that one states hydrogenated tallowate as primary fatty acid ingredient, and the other stearate and palmitate.

Tallow yields stearate, palmitate and oleate. Palmitate is a C16 fatty acid. Stearate is a C18 fatty acid. Oleate is a C18:1 fatty acid, meaning it has one double bond. Hydrogenation turns the double bond in a single bond, thereby turning oleate into stearate. Hydrogenated tallowate thus is primarily stearate and palmitate.

I'd be surprised if you could find any major differences between the two formulations upon chemical analysis.

Interesting to see him say that he acquired the 'new' formula in 2007 and the link to the picture in the 2006 review. I realise that I've seen this in a shop somewhere, what looked like very old stock with stearate as the first ingredient.

I had ordered a very old Palmolive stick from ebay but it went missing in the post :x

That could've helped to confirm which is the newer version.

I remembered where I saw these old sticks and went there to get one. They appear identical to the stick in that link. Could it be that these 'new' sticks are a load of old stock being sold off? One thing I noticed is that they do not carry the 'period after opening symbol', is it mandatory for all products to carry this symbol now?
