Alum Yes Or No

That was supposed to be funny.

Just recently I realized that I need to use soap to wash of the Alum to get the best of both worlds (it does leave a mucky feeling if i don't wash it with soap) and I do think it does benefit my skin After shaving so I just use soap at the final rinse and I use Moisturiser as a last step to my shaving routine.

I think after Mike's advice I will. I should have said that I dampen the block, (unless I get a cut, then I use a styptic pencil) as part of my routine, then a balm. Always useful to know how others use their products. Thanks

Marc don’t listen to me mate we all do things differently.
I was always under the impression you washed the Alum off after a few minutes of it being on due to the salt not being that good for you but if you get good results leaving it on then fair play to you.
Like you said above it’s always good knowing what others do.
I just can’t see the salt being to good on the face for any length of time.
Tell me how you get on by washing it off
Do you feel a difference ?

Hi Mike, I do dampen the block and did splash cold water tonight it felt even better. Then I apply balm or moisturiser. Even better!! Thanks Mark

Good point, I'm ok until I drop them and they splinter or shatter. I've lost so many like that.....
Same. I bought a little spray bottle. You can either chuck a few crystals in the bottom and top up with water, or put all the broken bits in a jar and fill with water and then decant the saturated solution into your spray bottle. Great deo as well as face spray after a shave, if you like to use it after every shave. I only use it as deo. When it's in solution it doesn't work as well at stopping weepers for obvious reasons. But at least it doesn't go to waste.

Great point hotmetal, I never thought of that, all this time shaving and I still learn great things! On the buy list, get some spray bottles as I know the inevitable will happen despite how careful I am....

Thanks Mark

"One cup of tea made with 2.5 grams of sassafras contains about 200 mg of safrole. This is about 4.5 times the dose that researchers think is poisonous. So, in 1976, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ruled that sassafras could no longer be sold as sassafras tea."

:(

Very random interjection there, unless I missed something? I won't be drinking any of that, or Sarsaparilla, now that I know it causes hallucinations and cancer. The FDA must have felt like they had a productive day that day!

Well, sassafras and sarsaparilla both contain safrole, a compound recently banned by the FDA due to its carcinogenic effects. Safrole was found to contribute to liver cancer in rats when given in high doses, and thus it and sassafras or sarsaparilla-containing products were banned.
Sassafras is a hallucinogen that's also known as methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA). You might also hear it called sass or sally.

you can get the alum block in powder form from local asian grocery stores

weird thing is ive noticed they usually have more stock of the alum block powder then the actual alum block, either way its cheaper then ebay etc, even though it dont exactly cost much lol
