No, I wet the block, use it, towel dry my face then balm or moisturise. I've never had an issue to be honest. (Mine's in a block, so after use simply dry and put it back in its container). It works for me unless someone tells me I've been using it wrong all these years....

I think your meant to wash it off

I enjoy the ritual of using it along with witch hazel, after shave and balm. It’s not necessary but it all adds up to a pleasurable shave

Thanks for the education, always learn something here.... I've always just towel dried and then used a balm. I'll wash it off and and see if there's any difference.. thanks Mark

I found witch hazel stings me. Just goes to show.

Agree with the last comment, Alum makes my face burn and dry up, find Thayers witch hazel far better.

I’m not saying you need to wash it off but that’s what i was always told over the years.
Who knows
if you like it then use it the way that suits.
i tried it again last week but again my face was bone dry after it.
Having said that if i get weepers i will continue to use it

I make my own balm with Witch Hazel. Aloe Vera,
Tea Tree & E45 it seems to work a treat oh i also use vitamin E in the mixture

I use alum powder if I get any Nick's that don't stop after splashing with cold water. Never as a regular post shave ritual.
