Gillette Tech
Shark Super Stainless
Wilkinson Sword blue bowl
DS Cosmetics synth
This is the shave arising from a very generous PIF from
@pjgh
Arguably overdue, I've been using the various components independently for a while, but this was the first shave where I put it all together.
I'd read so many bad things about the blue bowl that I'd avoided it up until now, but it's really not that bad. The scent's a little insipid and there's no discernible post-shave feel, but it more than gets the job done. It doesn't 'explode' with lather like my fancy artisan soaps, but just keeps building more and more, stealthily. It's a lot harder than most soaps I'm used to too, which makes my brushes deform into weird shapes. In the highly unlikely event I finish all my fancy soaps and there's nothing else available I'd be happy to go and get one of these (even if the bowls are black now).
This was also my first experience of a DS Cosmetics brush. I'm not sure there's much to say, it's a modern synth - you can't go wrong. The Sharks were a reaquaintance, I think it's been about two years. Also solid in their performance, they're not the smoothest or the sharpest, but are both smooth and sharp enough. Despite their fearsome graphics there were no nicks or weepers, and I feel completely comfortable using them.
Finally the Tech, a 1976 model. Obviously iconic, I hadn't realised just how compact it was from photos. Having come to 'traditional' shaving in recent years, this razor seems under-sized, but it handles like a beaut - it's obviously a classic for a reason. I now have to work out whether I prefer this 'mini' style or the bigger modern razor. Or I could just mix them up as the fancy takes me!
The only thing I haven't used yet is the attars - I'm unsure whether to treat them as aftershave or scent, or where to apply them. For the time being they're sitting here on my desk allowing me to have a pleasurable sniff when I feel like it (which seems to be pretty often).
Many thanks Paul for an awesome PIF.
