Acquisitions - October 2021

I've finally assembled this dream razor. It took some time (~11 months)

I wanted to present this razor to my FIL who was a prominent oceanographer and circumnavigated the globe a few times.
But back in Dec. 2020 the parts were unavailable and then in March 2021 COVID took my FIL.
I, therefore, abandoned this idea for a few months.

But then Brian (at CharcoalGoods) suddenly resumed operation and then Jack (from YPM) agreed to produce a small number of brass caps.
So the ball started rolling and orders were placed.
Coincidentally, I've just returned from my first ever sailing trip...
Sorry for your loss, use it in remembrance of him.

So, my son's birthday is coming up, he admired the rocket I got last month, commenting on how it's opening mechanism was far better than the modern, cheap Wilkinson Sword TTO he has.

Cue rocket purchase on the bay and a little cleaning (great thread in DE razors by the way). I think I've got it looking ok. It does have a lazy door on one side, just a little stiff and needs a small push to get it out of the way for blade loading. Blade sits ok though.
As he's just moved into his own gaff, and he can't just use my gear when he wants, I thought I'd also get him a bit of Stirling executive man as that's what he'd be 'borrowing' if he was still here!

The Fine Latigo is probably getting wrapped later for my own birthday - the wife noted it had arrived and the excuse that I had used - that it was for my birthday has been taken literally!

Soap is just because I don't want to smell like s***!

Managed to grab a set of this the night it was released! The soap smells great but the splash is even better, indistinguishable from the original I’ve used since I was a teen! A bargain set for just £30, I hope it lathers and feels as good as the other master soap creations/yaqi soaps I have, I just need to find an Issey Miyake dupe as good as this and I’ll be satisfied, (well for now!)

Whoa, my Faither’s a damn fine fella but I wish he’d given me a Gillette Rocket HD razor. ‘Tis a desert island job, that beastie. Bloody well done, sir! (y)

Got the Henson AL13 Medium yesterday.
Amazingly different attitude to my Oneblade on how rigid a blade should be clamped. The Oneblade edge floats around and almost bounces off of your skin whereas the Henson is rigidly clamped with very little exposure.
Not a single nick and just a minute amount of neck irritation on a BBS attempt. Not much blade feel and no variance in angle of attack - it's either cutting or its not. I liked it but have only got in one shave so far. Astra green blade as supplied.
The Henson Ti22 titanium "aggressive" will be interesting.

Nice one Lee mine was supposed to get delivered today but think it is still stuck in Stansted according to the tracking

I was lucky the tracking said mine was cleared within a few hours and moved on asap. Genuinely one of the best and easiest to lather soap bases I’ve had and the scent is great improving massively when lathered up. Post shave is great too. I will at some point pop on here the details they sent me about how bulk orders of 15 would bring the combo sets down to £22. Even if that’s then posted on from here it would still be a soap and splash for about £25-26 which is excellent value!
